There is one for sale around here. Are they a good rifle? Thanks

No. Poorly converted shotgun. (originally a stevens .410 pump) The place I used to work for was a Savage warranty station. We saw a LOT of them. There was NO way to make them feed or shoot reliably, in either caliber.

I always wondered about them. I worked with a guy that had one, but I never saw it. He hunted with it for a few years until he bought a .270.

one of the worst ideas ever was a savage pump. they do make a nice single shot.

Wow, my experience is just the opposite. I've been acquainted with several through he years and found them to be accurate, great feeders and fine deer rifles. I believe Mic McPhearson also had a good opinion of them in his book. I wouldn't hesitate to get one myself.

Pull the trigger before the action is locked and the hammer will fall.

My Gunsmith friend has a list of guns he will not work on especially if he considers them junk. This model Savage is on the list.

I have rather limited experience with my rifle but after an initial thorough cleaning it has given no problems. I certainly do not consider this rifle to be the equal of my Remington 141 but it has been satisfactory up to this time.
