can you free float a contender barrel in the forend like you can a rifle? would it make a diff. in a contender.

There is a product called a "forend hanger bar". It is supposed to do what you are asking about. I am not endorsing the linked site but am providing it for information only. A Google search for contender forend hanger or contender barrel hanger will provide some info.

From what I see it is a fairly simple process and one that can be accomplished at home if you have a little bit of skill.

You could just drop one or two washers into the fore end lug hole; the fore end screw has enough length to handle it. I noticed some improvement in accuracy in mine.
