I have some commercial bullets that are the180Gr TCPB that are too small for my Marlin .358 but feel they will shoot well from my .357's and .38's. And I have a good amount of .38Sp brass and not many .357 Brass.

Would this weight of a bullet shoot well from a .38Sp and if so would HP-38 be the powder to go with? And a long shot but any help on the load would be GREAT. :).

Thank You.

JG--

No actual loading experience with 180 TC PB, but LOTS of experience with Lyman #358430 (195 grain RN) in 38 Special and 357 Magnum--all of it good to excellent.

4.0 grains of HP-38 or WW-231 would be my start point, and I ran the #358430 to 4.5 grains in K-frame 38 Specials with no issues. They were a mite warmish, but well within safe margins in the Model 10 and 64 I used these in.

I bought 500 commercial bullets that sound identical in style and weight to yours. I'm down to less than fifty, I'll load these up the next time I load .38s. They shoot small groups out of my Model 10, but not as close to the POA as I would like. I mostly use BE and 231. Both work fine. Not where I can check notes but I used data for 168 and 195 Lyman bullets and interpolated to find a safe mid level charge. Then I put in closest size rotor in my old Bullseye Powder Measure and had at it.

They were still cutting clean holes at 50 yards, didn't test at any further range.

Thank You. I was going to use HP-38 as I have read here it would meter well and accurately from my Lee Disc measure. That way I can load them on my Lee Classic Cast Turret press without much fuss. I have TightGroup but it is so fine it does not work well in the Lee Disc Measure.

I use a 180 grain bullet that I cast from an LBT mould. It's the best bullet I've tried in my .38s. I load them long, to about 1.55 in my .357 guns with .38 brass. Load them to a normal 1.450 OAL is shooting in a .38.

About 3.5 to 4 grains of Bullseye will be a tack driver. Look for a speed of 750 - 850 fps for great performance.
