I tear down old sewing machinces. The small parts out of these all mostly gun screw threads. Had one machince that was made in England and was a different thread that fitted my Brit. Enfields.

Old adding machines are a gold mine also.

Old manual typewriters are a good source of gun thread screws.
Used to get trade in machines back in the late 60's.
Typewriters were smashed with a sledgehammer but screws weren't hurt!:p
Very dirty procedure however. Dust, dirt and old ink from ribbons.

The part that makes the shape of the letter on the paper after hitting the ribbon is lead.

I replaced all the Frame screws in my Replica Colts with a common sized Singer Sewing Machine screw. I picked up a bag full of the used screws at a repair shop.

Not sure of the exact contents of the alloy but I was suprised to find these are not cast. Instead a tiny billet is placed in a die and vibrated till it fills out and conforms to the shape. the vibration acts like thousands of hammer blows to surface harden the type.
