Back about 1977 I built a 50 cal. Mountain Rifle from a CVA kit. At the time there was an offer in the box for a free finishing kit if you mailed in the end of the kit box which I did. Got back a set of four little jars, metal cleaner, cold blue, maple stain and stock finish. The stock finish looked like blo but directions were to dot a small amount onto a small area with your finger tip and hand rub it in, continue till entire stock was covered. Repeat daily till desired finish was achieved. When you started hand rubbing the stuff got very hot, almost to the point of too hot to touch. But what a beautiful and durable finish after about eight or ten coats. Anyone know what it might have been and where to find it? CVA customer service sure ain't telling.
That rifle still looks really nice today after thirty odd years.
