Mrs. Geargnasher was kind enough to take some decent pictures for me so y'all don't have to endure my cr@#$%ppy photos this time!

I didn't like the factory, plain walnut stock due to the dyed red color, laquer finish, so I pulled out a piece of burly eight-quarter black walnut I'd been saving from a while and whittled it down. Finished checkering and carving Friday night, now I'm due a trip to the carpal-tunnel specialist [smilie=b:

I don't like the grain filled or a heavy layer of finish, so four coats of Watco Teak Oil is all I used for finish after sanding to 600-grit.

Anyway, enjoy, I'm going to see if I can talk her into taking some more pics for the Castpic-o'-the- month club since the current theme is "45s".

...............My goodness but isn't that pretty! Me an wood just don't get along so well. That checkering job (well, everything else too) looks first rate. Sure wished we lived closer together!

Buckshot, if we lived closer together I'd be bugging you constantly to teach me how to do all that neat stuff you do with real metal-working tools! Among all the things I've done and all the different jobs I've had (expecially part-time jobs in my college days), the two I regret are never having worked as an electrician's helper (six months experience doing that would have paid for itself in spades over the years), and never having taken any sort of formal welding or machining classes. But that's ok, I know a few good machinists here ;)

Great job Gear, that sure looks pretty! That brass frame and stock sure look nice together. I stumbled onto a Henry "big boy" recently, and that brass frame has really grown on me. I know it's not the same as a REAL Henry, but...it's still a fun gun to shoot and look at. Though, in the case of my rifle, it's a 357 and not a 44 or 45, so I'd be a lot more inclined to call it a "heavy boy" rather than a "big boy", but I guess that doesn't have quite the same ring. Guess I'm crazy, but I love it all the same...
