I went on their web site and notice on the 444 caliber they have a new twist .... of 1 in 20 instead of the previous one of 1 in 38...is this better... to my opinion it is better for heavy bullet in the 300 gr. range.... what do you think.... Michel

It's all better. I feel the current production 444 offers the best of every model of 444 offered.

Yes, the .444 has been change to 1 turn in 20" but it's not all that new. The Outfitter was introduced in 1999 with the 20" twist and the 22" rifle had its twist changed about a year later.

The 1894 in .44 Magnum remains at 1 turn in 38" 'cause I guess the cowboys don't care about 300+ grain boolits.

The Winchesters, had 1-38, and 1-12, the 1-12 was very limited in how many they made, I think they were all the Black Shadows.
The 1-38 will handle heavy for caliber bullets accuratly, they just need to be pushed very hard and most people will not do that........................................Marko

I agree with Starrbow.
My old, ( 1989 ) micro-groove 1/38 444 SS is very accurate with my 350 gr MM bullets.
Absolutly best accuracy I get with Vihtavuori N133 and V/0 around 1960 - 2000 fps.
46 grs N133 will give you around 1960 fps out of a 22 in barrel with a 350 gr bullet.
My favorite hunting load with that bullet runs 2034 fps.
