Seeing I can't find and .416 Remington Magnum Brass I guess I'll take a shot at making some out of .375 H&H Magnum Brass.
Not sure if I'll be the first to do this. Anyone have any constructive tips please help out.
TIA,
Duke

I have used .375 H & H brass to make 8mm Rem Mag brass..works just find & I did not have a problem with too thick case necks--that I assumed would be the case. The cases tended to be a bit shorter than a regular 8mm Rem mag cases. Why did I do this--I was given a quality of .375 H & H brass and I don't have a rifle in that caliber.

I would use a propane torch to anneal the case necks first--then carefully open them up using a smooth shank center punch & a plastic hammer. Then resize in a .416 Rem sizer die.

It depends about the case.. I have made 416 taylors from different Win Mag cases and I dont remember any case neck splitting with factory new cases.
If they are used ones, then I suggest the annealing..
Try with the new ones and if you got one, then do the annealing.

Who knows when Rem will run another batch of 416s. Jamison Intl. does now and then. The last 416 Rems I got direct from Jamison. Very nice lady usually answers the phone and she knows what is going on. I hate wrong headstamped brass so I put extra effort in finding it.

Now if you have to have some yesterday.... yes, not too bad to re-form 375 HH to 416 Rem. Anneal necks. Even out the mouth by TOUCHING with trimmer. Chamfer inside and out. Lube INSIDE of neck with a bore mop. Get a 416 Rem sizing die with a TAPERED neck button. Run 375 brass into die a little ways, back out and go a little farther each time until the neck gets completely expanded and the case is run all the way in. ALL this helps prevent ruining cases. Load some mild Jbullet or stiff cast bullet loads (30,000 psi +/-)and shoot to fireform. Done. The only downside is that the re-formed/fireformed 416s may be a little short in the neck.

My .416 Mag loading dies came from the factory with a tapered expander securing the depriming rod. It was "expected" soon after the caliber was released that brass supply would take a while to catch up. Ed

I fireformed a bunch of 375 brass with 10gr of bullseye (or any fast pistol powder).
1. Drop 10 gr of powder in the case
2. Fill the case to overflowing with cream of wheat
3. Level off the cream of wheat with your finger
4. Push a bar of soap on top of the case until the start of the shoulder. This compacts the cream of wheat and puts a small plug of soap into the mouth of the case.
5. Shoot them.

I don't remember ever losing a case during the fireforming. Make sure you run the 375 cases into your 416 sizer die without the expander ball prior to loading.

If you are taking these to Africa, supposedly some countries frown on cases not matching the caliber of the gun.
Have you thought of Hornady belted basic?http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000038798

Duke,
I was setting up at a local gun show today, and the gentleman next to me is selling at least 4 boxes of Remington factory loaded 416 Rem. He might have more, I can check. Are you interested in any factory stuff, or do you just want brass??
I'll PM you my phone number, and you can call me to discuss!

Take care!

Using the 375h&h to make brass for other rifles is pretty common. I have made brass for the 458Lott using 375h&h. Much like Ricksplace, I use 10-12gr of Unqiue, COW & then drip some candle wax in the case mouht to hold it all in place. Point downrange, muzzle down & fire. Check for proper shape & adjust the powder charge up a bit if needed. I have used theis same methode to make 404jeffery cases out or 375RUM cases.

Hey Duke!

I used red dot for forming 30-30 to 375 Win. Used the same process as ricksplace - just a different powder, and toilet paper stuffed in the end, instead of soap. It worked great!

Have fun!

That guys on Gunbroker and Accurate Reloading Forum trying to sell that over priced brass for the last 7 months or so.
Winchester makes the ammo now and should soon be releasing the brass.
