I have a unknown ingot that i got in a batch of lead from my grandpa. Trouble is I dont know if its lead. The markings on the ingot are GENUINE - A Hoyt metalic co St Louis and is signed ER Hoyt and says not genuine without signiture. It is stamped registered on the bottom. Anyone know what this Ingot is? Is it lead or some kind of lead and alloy mix? Thanks for any help fellas

Weird, that they guarantee it's authenticity, but don't say what they guarantee it to be !!!!!

after a google search, it seems to be a lead alloy used in bearing manufacture. Hoyt's St Louis plant was in opperation from 1875 to 1900 before it was moved to IL. While I dont know if this is any good for casting, it is pretty neat that it is so old.

Looks like plain old plumbers lead to me.

I'd keep it as a souvenir from Grandad. If babbitt, it is a little less than ideal, for casting and contains a small amount of copper.

"Genuine" is the name of an old brand of babbit

They used much less lead as a "filler" then there competitors.
