Hi guys

Is possible to use .22 LR cases to make .30 carbine jackets?

Someone with experience with this?

Thanks

I don't think there is enough brass there to swage up to .30 cal. If there were if probably would not be a very heavy projectile.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will add to this.

I think about 24-25cal is about the limit for 22lr. Might just be possible with 22mag.

I remember reading about spent 209 primers being used for jackets. Don't remember now if they were for 25s or 32s, but if for the latter, they may work for the carbine also.

Corbin made a die to use the battery cup from 209 primers for 25 acp when they were made of copper. They are now made of steel, check one with a magnet.
22 mag should be able to work.

I have taken 22mags up to 7mm with good results. Have not tried 30cal but only one way to find out. Give it a try.

Why not use 25 ACP brass as jackets? Looks close to the perfect starter size - for that matter the 30 carbine looks like a good jacket for 35 caliber rifles.

Likely not using 25 acp's as jackets since there seems to be a relative lack of them.. not a lot of ppl shoot em and to buy new just for swaging is probably cost prohibitive.. (at least I would think so).

32 acp cases would work well too, but like sargenv said, unless you have a good cheap supply there are better ways.

You could always get 357/9mm half jackets and reduce them to work, but it isn't as cost effective.

I have done 7mm bullets from .22LR cases. That is possible so I am a bit optimistic..
22 WMR should work as the cases are bit thicker.

I buy J words from a bloke, in 312 cal (7.62x39, and 32/20) made from recycled 22 cal jackets. I assume they are 22 mag cases, due to the length. Shoot well, accurate and explosive, even at lower velocity.
