I'm very new to casting, I tried searching but could not find the answer. I've been looking for some 6 cavity 45 ACP molds and can't find any HP molds with that many cavities. Is this because it's too hard to keep the pins hot enough? Or am I not looking in the right place?

Anyone? There must be a reason I'n not seeing 6 cavity hollow point molds, either they don't work well or I'm not looking in the right place...

It would be a Custom job. Try NOE in the vender section....Buck

The reason you can't find a six cavity HP mold is nobody wants one. A cast HP bullet is a special purpose item without broad use and appeal. A six hole hp mold would also be a complext booger to make and use. Far to complex!

You might want to consider having a couple of the cavities on a 4 or 6-cavity mold hollow-pointed. It would be more cost effective, and a lot more versatile. I'd suggest looking at Erik's site at Hollow Point Mold Service (http://www.hollowpointmold.com/).

A 6 cavity HP??? You really enjoy misery, don't you? A single cavity HP can drive a man looney, a 6 cav you'd be in the asylum just that much faster.

Seriously, very difficult to build, very difficult to use, very, very difficult to keep 6 cavities at the perfect temp for good casting and 6 pins at the right temp to release easily. Try a single cavity that doesn;t want to cooperate and you'll see what I mean.

For production HPing you might consider a HP jig in a Forster Trimmer or a swage die and punch for your press.

If you try the cramer style of hollow point, you can do fast work! Mp-molds would be my first stop. my two cavity molds from him cast as fast as solids.

The largest I've seen and used is a 4 cavity mold. It's a chore to keep the mold's temp up as it is just a slower process working this style of mold and the HP pins are like ice cubes as they can pull the heat right away from a mold.

I own a lot of HP moulds of various designs and have finally come to the conclusion that the old style 1-cavity single pin version is the best for me ! Originals, conversions by Buckshot or Erik, or new styles by BRP & NOE all seem to work best on my bench. I just have better control over mould temperature and pin adjustment. I also can get extra pins and easily grind custom designs !

I must admit that my brass Cramer moulds from MiHec are outstanding but they are not as versatile in terms of pins design

a 4 cav is the largest that I know of for making HP's.

Here is an example of an RG4 made by NOE. The pins can be changed to give HP's or FP's.

there was a 45acp mould run earlier. not sure if there are any 4C hp's left.

yea here was the left overs page, all gone.
This buy had the option of HP's

this two cav HP really cranked them out.

What bret said.... I suspect that what one perceives as a production advantage with a 6 cavity mold will actually be the opposite. You can actually put them out pretty fast with a single cavity with the correct temp and rythm.
