I took a week off from my regular job to get caught up around here & with no end in sight, just up & loaded the guns in the trunk & the ammo in the back seat and headed up to the range. Had a bunch of Experimental (fun in the name of science) loads.

Had some 150 gr. 12 gr. Unique loads so shot those. Using my M-70 in .30-06.

311440 shot inside 2" @ 50 yds.
Lee 150 FP went into a tight 4- 1/2" Pattern.
Saeco 150 gr. FP went into 3/4"( I have a load of those cast up too!)

The RCBS 165 silhouette did real well with about everything I put it together with.

31 gr. RX-7..now that was a real surprise with all that RX-7. 1/2" @50yds.
17,18 & 19 gr. 2400 loads all around an inch @50yd mark

Here's something I loaded up in 2001 but never got around to shooting them until now.

180 gr. Lee RN and 24.5gr. AA-XMR 2015. They went inside an inch for 5 shots from my old Springfield and about the same in the M-70 except for one flier that opened it up to 1-1/2".

I broke out my old 311290 and cast up a bunch of those last week.
18.0 gr. Alliant 2400 put em inside 1/2" with non-magnum primers and an inch with magnums. The shop I have to go to is kind of hit or miss but am definitely switching to non-magnum primers for most of my shooting.

Here is something a little wacky that happened and it just goes to show you..I was shooting a 17 gr. load of 2400 with the RCBS 165 silhouette and switched to some 18.5 gr. loads and the 18.5 gr. loads printed lower. All else was equal. I repeated this again just to make sure. OK whatta ya know?

Did some shooting with the Ruger .44 rifle again and the RanchDog Tumble-lube bullet. Got some 2" @50 yds. stuff with 17.5-18 gr. of 2400. Nothing to get real excited about for sure. Good enough for the range the .44 mag is good for and for the porkers that will be the ultimate goal of these. Looks like they work pretty good judging from Ranch Dog's recent pictures.

Gotta go time to end this fun day with a little reloading..and then a nighttime story...hah hah.

180 gr Lee RN produced good results in your Springfield!

Was that the .309 diameter mold?

I'm looking for a good Lee mold for my Springfield. (El Cheapo)

Thanks.

Yeah Mike,
They drop out at .310" and i seat them right up to touch the lands. It's only downfall is that it is available only in 1-cavity

The 18.5gr load has a higher velocity, and gets out of the barrel earlier in the recoil cycle. Hence, shoots "lower". Very common in handguns and heavy bullets.

Due to much lower than nominal "J" bullet velocity, the heavier cast bullets from rifle behave more like the handguns.

I get it now! Thanks Goose. Sure makes me re-think about changing powder charges without checking them out and then taking the gun out hunting say...
