Did early Lyman 450 lubresizers put the die in from the bottom or
some other way that does not use the die retainer nut like the later ones?

The check out this pic.

Anybody seen one like this? I do not see a die retainer nut like my
Lym 450.

How do the dies install and remove?

It looks like the retaining nut is just missing.

My oldest 450 (circa 1971) appears to be the same design, and it uses the retaining nut

GP100 has the answer- blow dryer and a little patience. That articular example doens't look like it was treated any too kindly.

Just set the thing in the sun for a while and let it get nice and warm. the you can push the sizer die out. As stated before the retaining nut is missing, a call to Lyman should get you one.

If the lube/sizer is very old the lube inside may have become very hard and have to be chipped out. First thing is to go to Lyman's web site and download the parts diagram showing the exploded view.

In all likelihood the nut is missing as it cannot be used without the nut, when you eject the boolit it will push the die up.

Not mine, it is for sale, just didn't look like the nut was out, but the pic is
not the clearest. Probably correct that the nut is just missing, but the annular
gap seems too small, maybe just the angle of the shot.

...........The Lyman retaining nut is a very thin thing unlike the substantial RCBS nut.

The ram looks tite , get it ACAP,the handle kit is less than 20 bucks ,don`t know `bot the die nut , and looks like a die & top punch is installed.

I rescued my first 1 from the trash dump, the bicycle handle linkage was broken!!
