I had some similar issues but reassembled mine and it works fine
they can be frustrating

It sounds like the trigger return spring has issues. I did the same modification to my Vaquero and forgot to take the pin out of the return spring and reseat it properly. Once the pin was properly seated and the stirrups put back in place mine worked perfectly.

The problem is the hammer is pinching the transfer bar tighter than the original. I swap all the regular hammers for modified Bisleys or Supers so I have ran into this problem a few times. The fix is to file away some of the second step of the hammer (part that contacts the transfer bar) until the transfer bar is no longer pinched by it. I usually cock the hammer and tape off the revolver to keep the filings from falling into the action when I file. If it is a newer Blackhawk, it may have the thicker transfer bar and require a good bit to be removed from the hammer. Look at the top of the hammer after dryfiring with the trigger still pulled and see if there is a gap between the top of the hammer and the frame. This is the amount that will have to be removed from the second step.

Do what tek4260 has outlined - be careful not to scratch the frame - file only on the second notch of the hammer where it contacts the transfer bar - file only enough to allow the transfer bar to drop after firing. Try to keep your filing on a level plain with the surface - dont change the angle. Do keep the filings out of the action - these filings will cause parts to bind and make you believe something else is wrong - it's not.

I had this same experience recently while installing a SBH hammer in my BH 44 special. It now works perfectly.

I have never heard this before. Why do you change out the Black Hawk hammer for a SBH hammer? Not trying to be a smart donkey, just don't know?

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/101_1915.jpg

Sometimes we even ream out Super cylinders to 45 along with changing the hammer!

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/101_1655.jpg

Or swap the hammer and grip frame to our 45

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/101_1280.jpg
http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/101_0238.jpg

Or doll up the $360 Anv model 44s

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/101_1091.jpg

And because they really ugly from the factory :)

http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm35/tk3945/101_0840.jpg

Then you sell the donor Super with the regular Blackhawk parts for more than you paid for it, keeping your new and improved 45

Well it was a toss up between changing hammers or changing grips  The gut feeling was to forgo the grips and stick with hammers, frames, sights, throats, forcing cones, ect

Id guess either a week trigger spring or someone did a pour mans trigger job and dropped one leg of the spring. Ive had it happen to me like that when doing a pour mans trigger job.

TEK4260

You and I share the same same sense of ashtetics. I di da lot of horse trading to get a flat top .44 special "Bisleyfied" before they came out from the factory. It was totally worth it. There is noting more personal than a personal pistol.

I have swapped all my hammers for the Super blackhawk hammers. Also have a Vaquerp with Super blackhawk cylinder rechambered to 45 Colt.

TEK4260 or Thumbcocker,

Who did the work of swapping out the Bisley frame? Just curious if you bought the invest ment casting from Ruger (or a parts house) and fitted it or just pulled one off a finished revolver.

One more question, with the Bisley grip frame, do you install the bisley hammers or do you stick with the Super Blackhawk hammers?

I did all my own work. I have used both new Bisley frames and take off's. The thing to remember is that bisleys have a taller height from the bottom of the grip frame to the top of the "ears" than a regular Blackhawk. Or at least they did. At some point in the last few years Ruger standardized the mainframe height between all SA's (excluding Bearcats of course).
Look at my last pic of the 4 5/8 45 and the Super. The GF's have been swapped and see how the regular frame sits high on the Super and the Super frame sits lower than the mainframe on the 45. The 45 is 2008 vintage and the Super is mid-90's.
The 2 tone Bisley is also on a 2008 Blackhawk 45. The stainless GF is from a earlier Bisley Vaquero. They match up nearly perfect. This is the main difference that requires fitting. Simple job with a file, but then you need a reblue.

The Bisley hammer has a bigger "hump" that has to be ground down to Blackhawk hammer profile to fit a regular Blackhawk. A regular Blackhawk hammer will work in a Bisley, but will leave an unsightly gap between the hammer and the grip frame. The second 50th 44 in the pics above has a reshaped Bisley hammer. The pic below it is the same revolver close to factory. I had already shortened it. Actually I was done with it in a few hours. I ordered it, checked the alignment of chambers, end play, gap, ect and did all the work without ever firing a shot thru it. I filed the front sight down to be dead on with 300 grain cast with the rear sight all the way down.

Was a heck of a shooter, but alas it was sold. If I am going to carry a 44, it will be an OM Super cut to 4 5/8 like this well worn one

Insanelupus;

I am on good terms with a local gunsmith who kept his ear to the ground and locted the Bisley parts as take offs. He had a project in mind for the flat top parts so all were happy. It's not a super perfect fit on the grip but he fitted the triger and hammer carefully and the trigger pull is sweeeeet.

If you guys like the Super hammers, you should check out the Montado's hammer. I like it even more than the Super's.

I wish Ruger would make a cross between the Montado and Bisley hammers.

tek,
You actually like those dragoon-style trigger guards, or do they just come along with the deal, because you like the feel of that grip the best?

I know that brass grip frames are rare and sought-after by some guys, and someone out here must actually like the dragoon-style trigger guard, but both of those options are not for me... Of course options are great, because everyone can get what they like!

I like the montado hammers,on my montado's.Just put an sbh on my blackhawk(with which TEK helped me out)but would have preferred the bisley hammer!(the sbh hammer was a gift)I like the brass grip frames also, have been looking, and found availability from both Qualite and Power Custom, but no Dragoon style.
