I am about at my wits end. I do not have to go far.LOL
Been trying to reload for my tt38. It likes the factory stuff which is hot a 86 gr. FMJ
about 1650 fps.
Tried titegroup all the way up to 6.3 grs. using Horn. 85 gr. JSP.
Will not shoot a good group. I think gun wants to run fast to be accurate. The factory stuff is really accurate.
I have IMR4227, H110, w296, and HP38, left as pistol powder choices. I have seen that many people use these. Just no one willing to put any numbers out there.
I have 4 different manuels and non of them have any data for this round. Maybe someone could give some starting loads to there most accurate load and then I could work up. Just want to get on the right track.
Thanks

I used to reload for the 7.63 Mauser, which is where the Soviets copied for the Tokerov cartridge. Unforunitly I do not have excess to my reloading logbooks down range. Might have some data over on my external hard drive which I'll check after lunch.

AA-7 powder has been my "go-to" powder for the 7.62 x 25 Tokarev. With 85-90 grain bullets/boolits, start with 6.5 grains of AA-7 and work toward 7.7 grains for 1400 FPS. That is about top-end for the Tokarev pistols; CZ-52 pistols and Soviet-bloc SMGs can run hotter loads. The most recent Hornady Manual shows some CZ-52 loads for their XTP bullets that run to 1700 FPS plus. Such loads would likely GRENADE a Broomhandle, and wouldn't do a Tokarev much good, either.

Thanks for the info guys. The Vithavori stuff is hard to find around here. I have been shooting the Czhec ammo, which chronos at 1650 and my tok is handling it pretty, very accurate.
I was hoping for some info with 4227. but will probably start with min.. loads for w296

I'd start with AA#7.
Power Pistol, HS-6, and 800X should also be really good, and WSF and Herco not bad.

The powders you have are all either too fast or too slow.

Thanks for the info it shows that H110 is definetly used for loading this pistol.

Here is another source using H110

Was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with it.
Thanks

I want to learn to reload this cartridge, just on principle, but it's hard to justify when milsurp ammo is still less than 10¢ a pop. But I just ran some numbers in quickload. I gave it a maximum pressure of 35000 psi, which is more than QL recommended, so take this with a larger than usual grain of salt. (that's also why most of them say DANGEROUS LOAD) Consider these maximum loads and use at your own risk.

Cartridge : 7.62 x 25 Tokarev
Bullet : .308, 86, Hornady RN 3100
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 1.390 inch or 35.31 mm
Barrel Length : 5.0 inch or 127.0 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.

Matching Maximum Pressure: 35000 psi, or 241 MPa

or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 105 %

These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

Brass for Tokarev can be limited to find for reloading. I cut 223 brass down and reform with the Lee Sizer/Decapper die. Harbor Freight sells a 2" cut off saw that cuts cases just fine. I cut a grove in a piece of wood and after cutting a slot with the cutoff saw, pressed a thin washer as a stop. I place an empty 223 case and cut to 24.74 mm. Chamfer inside and out, lube and run through the resizing die. Now you have 24.95 mm brass.
With this brass you will need to use a shell holder for .223 as the 7.62x25 case head is slightly smaller.

With high quality new brass from Starline being readily available and affordable, https://www.starlinebrass.com/brass-cases/762x25-Tokarev-Brass/ if you value your time as more than minimum wage slave labor, I cannot understand why ANYBODY would persist in the effort to make cases from 5.56 only to have the pistol put the results of your efforts into low earth orbit over Ohio... just sayin'

Don't see much point in bumping an 8-year old thread either.

If you want proven accurate and reliable data for the Hornady bullet, use Starline brass, CCI 500 and 7.4 grains of AutoComp.
