where to buy lanolin locally

I was wondering where you guys get your lanolin from? i looked at the big stores but all they had was nursing stuff that was VERY expensive.

If you have a real compounding pharmacy close by, that would be your first choice. They use anhydrous lanolin as a carrier for a variety of salves and creams that are mixed for topical applications.

Go to a pharmacy and ask them to order some. Be sure to ask for anhydrous lanolin. Might run 15 to 20 for a pound but that will make ALOT of lube.

dang, I hate I missed the group buy. I went to all my local pharmacies and they said they could order some but it would be 20$ a pound. I hesitated as I didnt know if that was a good deal.

Try a Farm store look at products made for cow udders, ie udder balm, bag balm etc

Go on Amazon and punch in lanolin on search. You will be given a list of chemical and beauty supplies. The NOW brand is what I buy and you can at times find it for $4 for a 7 oz jar that is 100% pure. Much cheaper than $7 for a 2oz tube from your local drug store.

actually the tube is 10$ at wolly world! :holysheep but my local pharmacies cant assure me that it will be 100 percent pure. I guess amazon it is then

Look on the package at wolly world. It should say what the ingredients are. As for the stuff at the farm store, it is likely to have other stuff in it. The Lansinoh brand of nipple cream is pretty pure anhydrous lanolin.

I don't think Lansinoh is anhydrous, but it really doesn't matter that much. Any water present will be evaporated in the lube making process.

CVS sells a Lansinoh knock-off for about eight bucks. You're better off getting anhydrous from a pharmacy or buying pure lanolin paste online.

The pharmacy at Alberson's grocery store got it for me. They had to special order it and it took a couple of days to get it in. The cost was about $11.00 for a pound which was far cheaper than anything else that I could get locally and at or below what I could get online after I figured in the shipping charges.

Wasn't aware of the other suppliers, but I just received a jar of 100% Lanolin from "Durofelt".
Can't remember the url, but do a google. They also sell excellent, hard felt for making lubricated wads.

I just ordered some from thechemistrystore.com. They have all sorts of soap and candle making stuff. I wish I'd waited a little while and gotten it from that pinemeadows site, since they offer $5 flat rate USPS shipping instead of the $12-15 UPS shipping the other places offer. Could have saved a good $8 on a 5 pound bucket.

Welli got this and it is a Vaseline like paste, I have been told this wont break down to make a spray lube is that correct?

Lyman, back in the day, used to sell small tins of what they called "E-Z" lube. it turned out to be Anhydrous Lanolin. The 4 ounce tin lasted along time. That was a long time ago. I subsequently ordered a one pound jar through a pharmacy and have always used it just for case FL sizing. I still have half of that jar. It simply lasts almost forever...the most economical way to make it last is to rub a teaspoon of the stuff into/onto a clean ink-pad and roll the cases to be sized on the pad. I never kept track of how many cases of all sorts were ever rolled on the pad, but it was a hellova lot of them. LLS

I got a jar of the thick paste lanolin from some seller on eBay, it was very reasonable, in an 8oz. jar. Got a 12oz. bottle of ISO HEET at the auto parts store, melted the lanolin in the microwave, poured the HEET into the spray bottle, added 1oz. of the melted lanolin, worked great. Just sized about 450 .303 Brit cases with it.
