Calibers?? Probably only 10, but more than 70 cartridges in those 10 calibers.

I feel I must make a point here. Caliber is bore size, as I said earlier, I load 8 different 32 caliber handgun cartridges. That is one(1) caliber. Am I picking nits??? No, I am not. The thread was originated as "CALIBERS", not cartridges or chamberings. In the interest of being accurate and trying to prevent misunderstandings I needed to make this point.
I do not mean to offend anyone, but as we all know and understand; accuracy counts!!!!!!

Sixteen rifle cartridges, fourteen using cast boolits, (all but the .22s.)

Eight pistol cartridges, all using cast boolits.

In more than fifty years I have loaded for fifty different cartridges, counting .244/6mm Rem. as two, and counting.44 Magnum as two because of use in both rifle and pistol. If there is one bit of advice worth passing on it is this: "Never let dies or moulds go with the gun; you may need them as a result of the next trade."

Way too many ... but often add another just to enjoy the option.

I have dies for over 40 different cartridges, but I don't actually load for all of them at any given time. I also have several duplicate (and triplicate) sets of dies, but I think I'm going to keep the best ones and sell the rest once I return to the States. I don't really need 3 complete sets of .303 British dies, for example - even though I have 3 different Lee Enfields.

Oh, but I do need to add another cartridge to the mix; I'm having a .458 Lott Express Rifle built while I'm overseas.

I haven't noticed any STW cartridges, aka Shooting Times Westerner. They literally burst onto the shooting scene just before the turn of this century and just as promptly "burst out of the scene". I've never seen any of them myself or know anyone who owns one.

I know of only one local who owns the 7MM. I ordered some brass for him last year. He's not shot the brass to pieces yet. HEE HEE.............Creeker

I have dies for :

That does not include the LYMAN 5/8 thread "Mystery" dies in a big plastic bag that I have. Someday I gotta dig those out and look up all those numbers..... "PJ"

I'm going to try using some commercial cast boolits that are available unsized and unlubed. Prices seem fair and he's only a few hundred miles away. (Moyer's in PA.) These will be the pistol boolits only. Arthritis, carpal tunnel and time are the reasons.

In many of those calibers I load numerous cartridges, many just a few, and some just a couple.

Wow..... had to think about that for a few minutes. 9 different calibers and and 17 different cartridges in those calibers over the years. Pretty much only load for 223, several 30's , 50 muzzy and 12 gauge now.

Hey, Balta, no worries! Many of us here only do one or two. The point is to do a good job so you can put all your shots as close together as possible, so it doesn't matter how many calibers you have.

I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may incriminate me. Now the guberment knows what guns you have from what you reload. I'm sure they keep a list of what you have from monitoring sites such as this. I'd like to say but I'm uneasy considering the election results. The danged guberment has it's perverbial nose stuck where it doesn't belong. BC

Hear, hear. I once worked for The Government. Rest assured, .gov can't plan a retirement party for a clerical worker without private sector assistance. Unless you're a life-long crook, the government is a STUPID thing to live in fear of. Even then, the odds favor the crook several times over. The Bilderbergers, the Stealth Staters, and the rest of the conspiracy theorists "out there" are entertaining--in a Village Voice or grocery store tabloid/UFO sighting sort of way--but give it a freakin' rest, already.

I think the lack of a 41 special probably comes from it wasn't "Magnumatized" from a 41 special into a 41 magnum. The 41 magnum came first. Between that and the "small" following the 41 magnum has in comparison with the 357 and 44 mags, it's a small market that would want a 41 special.

Hobby life was simpler when there were fewer calibers to ride herd on--but what kinda fun izzat? Over the past year, I've deleted 3 chamberings--re-started with another that was idle for 12 years or so, and taken on one new one (38-55). I've also narrowed down the load variations within given calibers quite a bit, which simplifies things to some degree. Still, over 30 chamberings call my garage "home".

bear67
01-15-2014, 11:30 PM
I am currently loading for 21 (10 rifle, 8 pistol, and 3 shotgun) but I have dies for probably 10 others and have loaded for them in the past.

I made an effort to consolidate calibers where I would not have to stock as much brass, bullets, molds and dies. But it really did not work as well as planned. When a really nice Savage 99 shows up in a cartridge I do not currently load, I just bite the bullet and buy the stuff to shoot the "new" Savage--the Savage is just an example, might be a Sako or ...... Maybe a better argument is that if I have more guns and different calibers, I will be better able to find ammo.

The truth is the answer to a question once put to me. "How many guns does a man really need?" and my answer is "Just one more."

How many we load for can also extend to the answer--"Just one more."

Don't rightly know. Virtually all American pistol calibres and a few european ones. Several rifle calibres and a handful of obsolete and wildcats too. Reloading room has somewhere in the vicinity of 50 sets of dies. About ten of them are used regularly.

I have halted all shooting--reloading--casting--and related hobby crafts. No more of any of that for me. From here on out, its FISHING ONLY--using barbless hooks, non-toxic weights, and all of the sea kittens and river puppies will be gently caught and cuddled softly prior to release.

I love Big Brother. And Barbra Streisand concerts.

Oh, oh, Al is in trouble! Quick! Someone get the lead hammer mould and make him a wheel weight hammer so he can smack some sense back into himself!

You guys are nuts. About 8 years or so ago, before I started reloading much less casting I started trying to consolidate calibers for exactly this reason. I reload for more than i shoot because I make ammo for my father but even doing another persons loads I'm still way behind even the more moderate people on this thread. Gah I can't imagine keeping track of that many different calibers much less casting for them too. More power to y'all though.

I'm with Al, Hate guns, love flowers, criminal aliens, OOPS! I meant to say, undocumented immigrants, liberal politicians who increase taxes and use the proceeds to remodel their house and fund criminal aliens, OOPS! I did it again; undocumented immigrants.

Don't rightly know, I regularly load for a half-dozen and can load for another dozen if necessary. Like most longtime loaders I have dies and components for firearms I no longer own, do they count?

I have 205 bullet molds, with multiples of the same caliber. That gives one an idea of the number of calibers I reload for. One caliber I reload that I don't see on the list that I do is ...
22LR with black powder!:)

I'm with Al & smokeywolf but also sean penn, I am destroying all my guns and related equipment for all 30 calibers. Only then will the world once again be a beautiful place where cougars and Bambi can romp & play together, every rainbow will have a pot of gold, all evil conservatives see the light and our wonderful leader obummer will be elected to his tenth term.

I am in area of 34 over the years, not sure which I reload for now divorce and bankruptcy have left me wondering what I do have anymore and living in a rental I am not sure what is where either. Live is great if you don't take it to seriously.

Pick you one caliber, use a Lee Loader, Lyman 310 or some such. It is slow but will help you remember who you are & will do volumes for the healing process. There is life after divorce. Wish you the best soldier.

My hobby mission at the outset was to involve myself so deeply in the ammo production end of shooting activities that I would lose track of the number and nomenclature of the calibers I rode herd on. Mission accomplished, years ago. The only accurate way to list them all is to sit at the bench, where I can view all of the die boxes in order to get the listing straight. I did delete 4 calibers last year, added 1 and re-started another that had been dormant for about 15 years. I'm not a complete cartuchophile.

I also have dies for 9mm but no guns for it. I'll be adding the .460 Rowland to the list this year.
