I'm looking at a Remington 760 in .270 that is my buddy's son's rifle. I used to have one in 30-06 and liked the rifle. I could hold it muzzle up and depress the slide release and it would open up.
This one occasionally seems to be hanging up on the dust cover. Did a complete disassemble and cleaning but it will still hang up once in a while if you work the action lightly or let it fall open. I'm thinking that the back side of the dust cover may be worn.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Dust cover is plastic right at least the ones I have seen are. They occasionally break then need replacing. I think as long as it works when you manually pump it there is nothing to worry about.

I should have mentioned that this is an early metal dust cover. I did have a 760 for years and have shot quite a few, they're very popular in SW PA. This one is not functioning as it should, it hangs up even if the action is slowly manually pumped though not all the time.
Thanks anyhow.

Mods,
Feel free to move this to Gunsmithing if that's a better fit.

Figured it out. Either the metal ejection port cover is worn or the track it rides in the receiver is worn. They only make a plastic cover now, maybe that's why.
I'll change it out and see if that solves the problem.

Good Luck though them plastic ones are no bargain either but it should keep ya going.
