I bought a few boxes of Hornady Lever Revolution factory "2nds"(?) from Midway and, after reading where a guy in the 9th edition of Handloader Digest-John Traister-wrote about some work he did with the .30-30 Ackley.
I loaded up some loads similar to his only where he used a 170 grain flatpoint, I used a 160 grain LR bullet.
Got me wondering if the chrono was lying cause I got 2606 fps from a 20" barrel out of an AE '94 Win. using 31 grains of H-4198. In the article, he went as high as 32 grains but after seeing the velocity on those, I pulled those loads.
35.5 grains of H-335 got me up to 2576 fps. This is also kicking it out there for an Improved .30-30 I'd say.
Any comments or concurrences? Primer pockets were still tight. I'd say this is fast enough.
