Smelted down some pipe iso containers , hollow 1" in dia. 12" long , painted blue .

They melted very qwik cleaned up nice , when poured (I poured mine bout 1" wide in angle iron mold) they turn dull gray very fast & had to let completely cool before poppin em out or they`d break .

When tapped they ring with a good tingy sound & break before bending ANY !!!

Don`t know how hard (notched my thumbnail Muddy Creek Sam has my Lee hardness tester) but as hard as anything I`ve ran across in a long time ?????

like this only longer?

I have about 100 lbs of them at home right now. My tests have shown them to be pretty typical isotope lead, which is to say 96/3/1 and a BHN of about 10-12.

Water drop them and they jump way, way up though. Have seen BHN's over 30 before for water dropped bullets from a 750 degree pot.

If your cooling process as accelerated in any way, that may explain why they seem a little harder. And, I do mean any way, including casting with hot lead on a cold day, or testing the first ingot from a cold mold.

The ones above are 7/8" diameter and closed on one end, and I have gotten ones that are 12" long before. Both are used for an inhalant, but I can't remember what.

Interesting that yours are so much harder.
