Anyone shoot cast in the swiss 96/11 long rifle?
What bullets and load did you use?
Thanks for any info.

I'm of the impression that the earlier rifles have longer throats than the K31s. If that is true, then it should be easier to find something that works, like the Lee 200gr RN.

Right now I'm shooting the Lyman 311644, Saeco #315, and Saeco #301 in my worn throated K31. Try 21-22gr AA5744. I size and lube in a .311" die, and they chamber without dragging on the case necks. The #315 is a multi-groove tapered bullet and engraves on the nose and first couple of bands. The Saeco #301 and Lyman both engrave on the ogive and at the leade.

My other K31s don't have the wear in the throat, but will still chamber the same bullets, albeit shorter OAL. I like to seat 'em so that there is only a bit of resistance closing the bolt 1/16" or less.

What molds do you have?

Yea, it has a longer throat. I checked it this morning and it looks
like I will be able to use almost any bullet I want to in it.

My 1915 G1911 likes the Lyman 311284 and 311299 sized at .311. the bore slugs at .300X.310 and the throat is longer than my K31's. Curiously though, brass fired in the K31 will not chamber in the G1911. The K31's have a very short throat but larger chamber then the G1911. My best loads are 17-18 SR4759, 10-12 Salut and 10-12 Red Dot.

Good luck,

Charlie,
Your K31 fired cases won't chamber in your earlier rifle unless FL sized. Redding and Hornady both make different die sets for the K31 vs earlier 7.5x55.

Excess,

I have the Redding FL set but use it sparingly. Normally I use the Lee collet necksizing die. My brass is both Graf's and PNY so I segregated 50 PNY cases, FL resized and notched the rims with my Dremel clone. Fired cases from the G1911 measured .015 less diameter just below the shoulder than cases fired in either of my K31's. I've finally gotten a new tall sight for the G1911 and have been doing a lot of shooting and filing.

i've oddly had less luck with the 96/11 than with the regular 11. In fact, the throat on mine seems intermediate between the 11 and the 31.

My go to load for the swiss in general though is 11 gr of red dot and a 200 gr lee mold... shoots to POA with the short stubby sights. :)

Charlie,
I have (3) K31s, and brass is all PP from Graf or reformed WW 284. So far I've only segregated by headstamp. My first cases were the WW 284s, and they were repeatedly fired and FL resized in 7.55 dies without any apparent stretching. They WERE noticeably harder to resize, and fired cases compared to those FL sized in that first set of dies does indicate at least .012" larger diameter shoulder from the K31 chamber. I've since switched to Redding K31 dies, and cases are much easier to size.

My loads are all with cast, and moderate at most, so cases don't expand much. The 22gr AA5744 with 175gr Saeco #315 load holds accuracy to at least 385m, but seems to lack enough oomph to reliably knock the rams over at 500m. The 200gr Saeco #301 with the same powder charge does knock those rams over, albeit slowly. I'm working with some other powders and bullets to flatten trajectory and increase momentum at 500m.

The nose diameter on my Saeco #301 is .3005"-.301", and may not work in rifles with less worn throats. The 200gr Lyman 311644 and 210gr 311679 both have tapered ogives, and may be more compatible with unworn, unthroated K31 barrels. I would like to try a 311284 with undersize nose.....

Excess,
Notching cases just made it easier to separate brass after tumbling. Usually I'll dump 30-06, 7.5 Swiss and 7.62X54 in one tumbler load and usually the Swiss or Russian brass has been fired in different rifles. My 91/30 brass will not chamber in my Finn M39 and the brass is all Graf so notching makes my life easier. On another note, I lucked out on a Lee C309-200 DC mold I got about a year ago. The nose casts at .297 and the body at .3095, a perfect fit for my K31's since they both slug out at .297X.307.
