Hi guys,
I read most of the Red Dot thread which is way deeper and beyond what I'm looking for or needing some info on.

This is for a 357 Taurus 66 w/6inch barrel.

I still want to shoot at 10 and 15 yards, but the older eyes and irons sights are a challenge.

I don't hunt and rarely shoot outdoors, it's 100% at the range, 10 to 25 yards. What whould help, a regular scope? I'm guessing the 10 yards would be to close, but I don't have any experience with them.

I understand Red Dot's don't magnify so they sound promising, something with a small dot that I can still see as the lanes aren't always the brightly lit up.

I don't complete, just love shooting cast bullets and want to go to the next level. I'm hoping this is less than $100 but can go higher.

I really have no idea what to even investigate as most of the info addressing larger distances and hunting (50, 100, 200 yards) and in the outdoor sunlight.

Thanks for any and all info. I learned to cast here, now just need to enhance the fun a bit.

I have several different brands

On the non big boomers , I use Millits
I have had 0 problems even on the 44 mag and 45 colt Red Hawlks

Midway sells them for around $90
The last 2 I got was through my local gun shop , he charged me around $80 each

For me at least a red dot is a great thing

at this time i have aroud 25 red dot sights ranging in price from 35 to 500 dollars , and have been useing them for around 20 + years . for a 357 mag id choose the ultra dot scope with the 30 mm tube as the best bang for the buck with a LIFETIME WARRENTY as a +

Thanks for the advice guys. Now I've gotta find a mount, I'll check the units you've suggested to see if they can supply that too.

I use an Ultra Dot on my M1911A1 for bullseye competition and one one my S&W Model 41. the one on my .45 is slide mounted and has held up fine. One thing though, if you can't focus on a front sight you may find you need glasses or a diopter to see the red dot clearly. I'm 55 and need reading glasses. When I first used the red dot sight, all I saw was a little red comet-shaped object. I had to put my diopter back on my shooting glasses to see a little round dot.

Actually, the Red Dot should be seen clearly if you can see clearly at a distance. I have several different brands and sizes. Some days, when my eyes are not working well (I am age 75) my Red Dots are "fuzzy" too. However, using reading glasses is overkill. You just may need your distance prescription sharpened up a bit.

When my eyes are working well (I have had my lenses replaced in my eyeballs - from cataracts) the Red Dot is sharp as a tack. Of course, each of us is completely different and we all have to use what works.

When I got my first Red Dot sight I thought something was wrong with it as it had that "comet tail". Well, I learned it was my distance prescription. My Red Dot was not the only thing red - so was my face...
