Finally found an 1895GBL 45-70 that was still at a fairly reasonable price ($570). It's on hold and they'll be getting a check in a day or two.

First the down payment, then the remainder soon, very soon... can't wait.

PS,,,I do think I am going to order and put on a Skinner's peep on it also. Me and those style of open sights and my bifocals, just don't get along

You'll love the 45-70 marlin,I got a XLR and it is very accurate.

Check will be on it's way tomorrow morning. Made shipping arrangements today. Hopefully it will be here in time to take it to the range next weekend.

I thought they were only available in the brown laminate? Can you get the black laminate from the factory as well?

I would assume the factory is putting them out, unless discontinued. I had walked to gunshop and seen another guy looking at one in grey lam. He bought it also, so I told the owner of the shop to order me one. I had only seen brown on the Marlin site as well. Whether or not they still make them that way I do not know but evidently my shops supplier has has grey on hand.
