Does anyone know if the bbl threads of a Rem 721 are the same as the model 700? Thanks for replies. --- Bob.

abob,

Otteson in"The Bolt Action" indicates they are.

I've never re-barreled either one so I can't confirm.

Thanks guys -- was just wondering if a cheap A&B bbl ordered from Midway listed for model 700 could be used for re-bbl of 721. Didn't want to call Pac-Nor to ask that kind of question. Bob.

There are no A&B prethreaded barrels for Remington 700 that I can find.

Look on gunbroker under rifle parts and then under the barrels sub-section and do a search for Remington 700.

There are plenty of 700 take offs in a variety of calibers that are for sale. Most are new or in good shape.

I have an excellent spare 722 Barrel in 300 Savage that could be easily screwed on your action for a cheap price. Also a 700 varmint barrel in 223 remington that could be rechambered to 220 Swift which would work well on a 721 action.
The difference between a 721 and 722 is just action length. both have the same threats.

PM me is interested.

Thanks guys - my mistake about A&B bbls offered on Midway for Rem 700. - maybe my confusion was just browsing at the same time for Mauser 98 offerings .... wonder why so many offerings for Mauser and yet the Rem 700 (mine a 721) has not nearly as much listed.
Starting to think about building up another project rifle....thanks for the offer Bill but am looking at a larger bore. Bob.

A&B barrels are made by ER Shaw and I guess he does not want to compete with his name brand.

Brownell's used to offer pre-threaded and short chamber Shilen barrels for the Rem. M-700 and I think they still do. Price was very reasonable and they are very accurate barrels.

There is a guy on TradRag that had several take off 700 barrels in various calibers for sale.
I bought a 222 Rem barrel from him CHEAP! A real nice barrel, too.
Let me know, and I can check and see if he has what you need.

also figure on stock work as I think the taper and barrel dimensions are different between teh 721/722 and 700. Didn't the 721 have the machined sight base band for the rear sight?

Are you remembering the right gun?

721

and stock work will be part of any barrel change as even the one that are supposed to be the same aren't always right.
