A couple months back one of our native american (not capitalized on purpose) bretheren escaped form a county jail and later shot a Trooper. The hunt has been on. Yesterday he shot 2 more Troopers from ambush. Looks like were going from serious to really, really serious now. Hope they catch him before Tuesday, thats when I go out. Far as I know and the news says, out 2 guys should make it.

Now all we have to hope for is that his buddies don't secret him on a reserve. "Storming the Reserve" tends to get ugly and I don't heal so fast anymore.

Be safe and watch your back Bret. Been there done that too; and it ain't no fun when some nutcase decides to hunker down and see how many cops he can whack. Especially when everybody in the area is willing to hide the *******!

Bret,

Following the story on the news and told the wife I hope they catch him before he ambushes anyone else. Refuse like that "man" should have a long fall with a short rope, but you'll have a ACLU type defending him on the principle that he was only "defending" himself from the aggression of others.

Bruce

Stay Safe and give me a PM when you get a chance. I love to shoot lead with you sometime.

If you go to shoot'n people because you are evading the law... you deserve exactly what you are dishing out AND there ought not be a safe haven on earth. If he makes it to a "nation", the people ought to do the right thing and put a bullet in him. This is not PC but PC needs the bullet too...

From what I hear he hasn't gone on the reservation, apparently he doesn't have friends there. My hunting buddy has been on the Bucky Phillip's detail off and on since July.

The news today said the reward jumped from $50K to $225K. One of his dirtbag friends will sell him out, soon.

Thanks for the support guys. My views have been echoed already, although I would have used a different term regarding the rectal issue. Hope the guys make it. It was one of our MRT (swat) guys and a dog handler (K9). I think this fellow deserves whatever he gets.

Bret, our prayers go out for the wounded officers and those who still have to deal wth the scumbag. I hope all LEOs involved will approach with extreme caution, and that the press is excluded.

The stories here haven't mentioned the "Native American" angle. They just say people were laughing about it, supporting the guy and naming hamburgers after him until he shot the officers, and they quoted several people who were still saying "he's a good person." They also said he'd been a thief all his life and in and out of jail for most of it. Didn't place much emphasis on that part.

Here's another 'bad Indian' story the local paper ran a couple of days ago. Nothing recent about it but it is a wild and tragic story.

One of the Troops lost his leg in a effort to save his life. It's touch and go. The other should make it, he got gut shot.

Ever since Wounded Knee and the start of the American Indian Movement there hasn't been much "bad press" directed towards any of the "Native American" issues. Not PC. I doubt this will change anything.

Fox News is reporting that Officer Joseph Longobardo has died due to wounds received during the ambush. His wife was by his side when he passed.

Prayers and condolences from our family to theirs.

Local news reports the second trooper is in a medically induced coma still.

When do you foresee the charges ramping up on this lowlife to "CopKiller"

If I remember right, the NY State Assembly changed its laws regarding cop killers after last year's attack on a LEO in a jewelry store heist.

Phillips may get the "blaze of glory" he wants. I almost wish that a local homeowner "afraid for the safety of his family and home" puts a 450gr Gas-Checked, Water-Quenched, Hollowpoint Cast Lead Slug from a 45-70 into the B*****d as he's trying to steal another car to make a getaway.

"Honest Officer, I was genuinely afraid for my very life when I raised my rifle's barrel and blew that skunk's chest out."

Note, I am not commenting on or advocating vigilantism. I understand and advocate the 2nd Amendment to secure the safety of my home and family but I not will disparage the process of law our LEOs are sworn to protect.

Our LEOs in the state of New York are often led by political hacks but the troopers and other LEOs who work the streets everyday putting their life on the line to ensure the safety of the law-abiding citizens of this state are the cream of the crop when it come to professionalism.

Well, didn't this just make my wife another 4 degrees more stressed. I'm headed out tomorrow AM, unless they catch/eliminate him tonight. I'll send in reports from the field if I get the chance. Now where'd I put the 303 ammo...

Stay safe
We chased a nut here in OK for months, watch out for those that dont normally live in/understand the woods...
Used to hunt Shinhopple Ny when I was a kid, kinda thick about the upper parts of NY.
Hope for the best, place a good shot if the chance becomes you, and remember, some old doctor might shoot him, happens out here from time to time.

God Bless, and stay safe, Bret! What a sickening tragedy for the three troopers who have been shot. I hope this all ends soon.

I pray G-d's protection for you and your brother officers, Bret.

There are two LEO family members on duty as I write this. Our family have as much worry and concern for "Our Cops" as we had for the family\friends when on duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

To put this in perspective, latest reports have 18 New Orleenz area 'citizens' stabbed or shot this Monday, Labor Day weekend.

Believe this--once the turd lands in state prison, he'll probably be housed in special housing for a while but if he "behaves" and believe me, a smart career criminal knows how to "behave" in the system, in time he will have access to all the rights and priveledges that any other general population inmate has access to--up to and including the "family reunion program" which we lovingly refer to as the "job security for future correction officers" program--let him make some more cons to be while doing his life bid.......I could go on but I really don't want to make myself sour by thinking about it more than I have to.......god rest the fallen and speed healing to the injured--and give some time for rest and recuperation to those that participated in the manhunt--that is a drain in more ways than one, I have stood watch on these sorts of things a couple of times when CERT was called up on an escape........

Well, I'm back. As usual there were things done wrong and done right. At least the support system worked well. In retrospect I'm just as glad he surrenderd. Had he fought it out there would have been that segment of the media and local citizenry that would insist he was murdered by the Troops.

Now, to bury our dead.

which is the segment of society who's favor I'm tired of seeing curried. Bucky should be on a morgue table right now, to remind every other scumbag that there are dire consequences for shooting at cops. This year 2 troopers and an East Hartford Officer have been killed, and 2 others wounded. Frankly, I'd have been OK with the state police burning the woods down to get him.

He's 44, and spent 20 of his last 23 years in prison. His life is worth nothing, he's whizzed it away all by his lonesome.

F&H et al--

There is a small segment of society--thankfully VERY small--that gets a perverse thrill out of cheering for the bad guys. Every time a deserving predator gets his final justice in the Green Room or a like location, there is always a group of these cretins chanting and keening nearby, complete with placards and loudspeakers. I admit to being very subjective on matters like this, having received a gunshot wound on duty in 1981--being shot at several other times--and having worked an ambush murder case in 1997 in which 2 of our deputies were slain. "Freedom of expression" does not extend to the brandishing or firing of firearms at others, esp. law officers. I'll stop now, and spare y'all the rant that could easily ensue.

Not to create a rush to judgement (That is for the PC Police out there on the internet) but when this scumbag is judged guilty and is sent to his final reward, The state of New York should run the execution live. Long Drop - Short Rope.

Maybe when the scum of society start seeing the results of their actions they might reconsider how they are running their lives. It's funny that a 150 years ago, Punishments were a public affair. You took Little Johnny down to the County Courthouse to see the public hanging so he could see what happened to those who broke the laws of the community. He left that scene with a serious life lesson on abiding by the laws of the community.

Now a days we just lock them away and people don't have the same impact. They just say "Uncle Ralph is currently at Attica and will be back in five years (on a 15yr manslaughter charge) with good behavior." In the meantime someone is dead and their family is suffering and in five years they get to see the killer back on the streets.

And the years the guy is in prison is not a success story for rehabilitation in most instances. Most consider it a hold on their current pattern of life and will resume it upon their return to society. Thus you get people like Ralph Phillips, a career thief who has spent 20 of the last 23 years in prison.

Deputy Al, I know you want to rant and I'm sick of liberal judges and ACLU Lawyers suiting up to protect A##hol3S like this Phillips guy from meeting his creator at a time when his feet are feeling a litle hot at the moment.

THe good thing is that He'll get his final reward one day and I personally don't expect to hear his cries as the flames burn his soul but I'd understand if my halo slipped a little to the right when the news is broadcast across the heavenly PA system.

I wonder if Trooper Longobardo will get to see Philips one more time before the flames of Hell burn him to a charcoal briquet.

I was kinda disappointed when I saw he was driven off escorted -- shoulda been a hearse and a body bag. Problem would have been solved -- except for those who he hurt. Too bad it didn't work out that way. Some people think I'm a cold hearted bastard. The way I see it is these scumbags who prey on the population gave up their soul. They are subhuman. Killing them removes them from what should otherwise be a civil society. sundog

Sundog, I heartily second your notion! But then, after spending 20 years as a Max A prison guard with five-to-life yet to do I have been way over-exposed to the dregs of society--soulless they are indeed and their disposal should trouble no one more than the disposal of a rabid animal.......:Fire:
