I know this is a subjective question--somewhat, but I have looked at Powder Valley and Graf and a couple of others...

Where do those who purchase kegs of powder, not surplus, suggest the prices might be the best...

Primers are also an interest...

CCI primers and Hodgdon powders when available with others considered if Hodgdon doesn't have a certain type available...

Any thoughts?...

Thanks...BCB

In the past PV had the best prices when you include shipping and Hazmat fees. I have purchased from Midway also, but usually when I couldn't find the powder anywhere else. Powder Valley also (last time I orded several years ago) Would combine powder and primers under one Haz fee.

Right now wideners has wolf primers all sizes 18.00 a thousand. Pretty hard to beat.

Now that Bartlett has limited surplus powders, Powder Valley.
Bartlett Surplus powders are no longer the bargain they used to be. The supply of available surplus is dwindling, commanding higher prices.

$20 more buys commercial canister powder.

Graf and Sons is usually a touch higher than Powder Valley, but Graf's pays the shipping. They do charge a handling insurance fee of $4.95 and of course charge the Haz-Mat fees so between the Powder Valley or Graf and Sons the price is very, very close with small to medium orders and often times Graf’s has the upper hand with medium and large orders.

I find that Recobs has prices similar to the above posted places as well, and they also tend to run various specials.

If ordering powder and primers, make sure that the retailer will ship both in one container under one haz-mat fee.

Some say they must be seperated which would be an extra 20bucks ++.

Couple years back, a bunch of us ordered from Natchez and they did something called combined packaging (OR????) and shipped over the posted weight amount in one container with of course just one Haz-mat fee. Did good by us that time, saved us some $$$$$$.

Keep em coming!

Just purchased a few things from Wideners because I needed 10,000 large rifle primers. Added a few kegs of powder to make weight. Came out good but only because the primers were so cheap.
But day in day out you can't seem to beat Powder Valley.................Creeker

Powder Valley.

Unless there's a good deal on surplus rifle powder out there, then i'll check out Hi-tech.

Good one Wireman134!!! Never gave that a thought to save money on reloading components, especially primers, powder and boolits!!!

Anyhow, I have put together an order, but I have not submitted it yet. I talked to a lady at P.V. and shipping is $11.95 if less than a $300.00 order and $15.95 if equal to or greater than a $300.00 order…

My stuff so far will cost…

Unique $15.60/pound (4-pound keg)
Trail Boss $18.52/pound (5-pound keg)
ProMag $19.70/pound
SR-4756 $22.07/pound

Primers will run from $25.00 to $28.00 per thousand. (Different brand names)

These prices seem reasonable compared to what this stuff might cost from a local dealer. All prices include Hazmat and shipping…

Can a person do better? I can’t locally…

Any thoughts?...

BCB, those prices aren't too bad considering shipping is included. I went to a gun today and paid $62.00 for 4# of Unique, and $21.50 for 1# of SR4759. The 4759 should be similarly priced to your 4756 (same manufacturer. I also bought a 9 ounce can of Trail Boss for $15.00. I asked what a 5 pounder would cost and was told $100.00...Ray

RayinNH,

Yep, the 4756 and 4759 are the same price...

The Trial Boss for the 5-pounder equates to $92.61--that is with its share of Hazmat fee and shipping included. that price is probably tough to beat...

But, I had to make out a substantial order to get these prices...

Oh well, they can't do anything but get more expensive in the future...

When I see those prices I start to drool.
1#Bullseye or Unique equal to about 55$ here in Germany.

BCB, The price you paid for 5lb of trailboss is prety much the same as the best price we can get it for here, and It's made here. All of the imported powders (mostly US made) cost 30 to 50 percent more in my neck of the woods.

I am still trying to figure just WHO is involved in hazmat fees? I purchased a large quantity of powder from one source. It came out of FOUR different warehouses and sent in FOUR separate boxes to my home and covered by one hazmat fee. I look at the various suppliers and their different rates and combinations and wonder. I have tried to find any mention under Fed Gov,UPS or FED EX and they do not list anything. Is hazmat a way for the dealers to recover the insurance fee for handling powder and primers?

I have never, other that holy black, ordered powder myself.

A bunch of the guys at my local club usually pool an order together- the rifle/pistol guys with the shotgun shooters and get one large load and have it trucked in, and on that, there is no shipping or haz-mat fees at all. This usually happens about twice a year. Usually, primers and shot are added on there, but I never bought any of that stuff- just the powder. The powder is great this way, because if I needed something odd, I could order one pound and not get penalized.

Thank goodness for my cheapskate trapshoot'n buddies. :bigsmyl2:
