looking for around 2800 to 3000 fps with a pp .223 single shot rifle, can it work or will the rotaional forces of 1/9 tear them apart?

Should do well. Dennis does it.
You will probably find the cigarette roller makes short work of patching.

I tried patching a 55gr casting. I didn't find it easy. I don't find casting 224 boolits easy either. But I have a target picture from someone who does and gets amazing groups and I don't mean one shot or three shot groups! I've no idea of the twist of his rifle. The trick as it seems to me is to be able to actually patch the tiny little boogers! Try the cig roller, as docone31 suggests.

Oh, for a single shot you should be sweet. No neck sizing required. Patch to get the boolit to just seat with finger pressure and to the neck base only. Possibly try the slowest powder suitable for the 223 and one that gets the desired velocity with a full case.

Good luck and keep us posted.:drinks:

It works in my hornet. (1/12 twist) There is no real way to tell if your rifle will like them or not without trying them.. Ditto on using the slowest powder that is practicle for the load. I use 4350 in my 30 30 for the best results.

It will work. You will need a BHN of around 15/16. The secrete is supporting the bullet so it doesent distort from the acceleration while in the bore. If your bullet exits round and not distorted with a drooping nose or distorted body it will be accurate. I have taken the 311284 to over 3000fps in a 1 in 10 twist with MOA accuracy.

Been struggling w/ 225-50-RF PP w/9#onion and Tracing so far , have run them down to 1240fps (11bhn) and yesterday up to 3622 fps (9# onion,30.6 IMR 4320 21 bhn ) and so far 7 different powders in my 219 Zipper . So far accuracy of any kind has eluded me. This particular gun will shoot 1 1/4" @ 100 yds. off bench all day long w/ 46 up to 55 gr@.224 . J bullets . Maybe that is where I have to go is my sizing , so far I have sized them @ .2245 and maybe I need to make a .2255 or .226 sizer. Just seems to be more finicky than anything else I've pp but I'll eventually get it. I just haven't run into this big of a challenge yet on anything else. Shot a few thousand in 444 , 45-70 ,35 , 30-30 and been very successful w/ them.............I'll get it worked out
I did run into pressure problems w/ 3031 at 3455 fps. 27 grs. which actually isn't all that unusual w/ this powder . I've seen extremely good results w/ it even in this cartridge (55gr. copper Jacket )but once in a while I seem to run up too much pressure in a particular load / caliber , so I just have to note it and get another powder off the shelf for what ever project I'm working on.
I did check the barrel for lead just because and I have been checking my paper chaff and all is very good

Ok, got my mold, got some cast and water dropped, should be hard enough. Got my .225 sizer, got the cig roller. Now for some paper. All of my paper patching in the past (many years ago with pure lead pistol boolits for 445 SM) were with #9 onion skin. Is this the way to go with the small .225 boolits or should I try something else?

9lb should work, if you roll it dripping wet.
It seems, if it is rolled in the roller soaking wet, the paper bonds to itself better than if it is rolled dry, or damp.
Then, I would set the casting(s near an airconditioner, or dehumidifier to really get the paper shrink.
You want the wrapped casting, after final sizeing, to actually be hard. Thats how I do it anyway.
