I just opened my latest M1 I got from the CMP and am very pleased with it. It is a post war model in the 5 million serial number range and has little wear evident. The bore gages 2+ TE and 1 muzzle so its got a lot of life left in it. It has nice sharp cartoches and what spears to be all original parts. The stock has a cople of minor dings but none are very deep and may come out with a little steaming. I am very pleased with my new rifle.

I would be surprised if the parts were all "original". If so, you would have an extraordinarily valuable rifle there - which CMP usually spots and puts to one side for auction. You may wish to copy off the drawing numbers from the various parts and compare with what is considered "correct" for a post war rifle of the appropriate manufacturer.

I'm glad that you are happy. Part of the fun with CMP is how often they exceed their grades.

+1

I was at the north store last week and help a friend pick one out. Found a "Rack Grade" H&R with an LMR barrel that had a 1 throat, and under 1 muzzle. The wood was ugly, but that can be fixed.

Pictures? We don't need no stinking pictures! I can visualise a nice clean M1 Garand. I have to agree, the Service Grade I got was much nicer than I expected it to be. Nice to get a good deal once in a while. Congratulations on your new baby, Nick.

I hate it when I read about service grade Garands with nice cartouches and such. Not that I bear a grudge against the guys that got em. It's just that mine came with a stock so worn the receiver hung over at the rear. But then again, back when I got mine, they were only $185. Everything else was as rebuilt in 65. Don't think it'd been fired since then and I've no idea why it was in that ratty stock, yes I do, had to get rid of them somehow! Gave me an excuse to get a camo-laminated Fajen though, and there it's been since about 1990, I believe.

Madsenshooter, she's nice. I like it a lot. My old WRA garand was made in '44 and looks like it too. The handguards are worse than the stock. I'm gonna try and steam out some of the dents sometime.

Good morning
Only bad I got from DCM or CMP was a 1903 #500xxx with a broke firing pin.
Everything else was a Good Deal.
