Anybody out there care to recommend a good Trapdoor forum -- I can't seem to find one.

TIA

Try looking at Trapdoorcollector.com or look at Trapdoors.com Not sure what you are looking for, but these sites are a start.Robert

I have been to both sites. I have a decent old Model 1868 Trapdoor (block dated 1869, 1863 lockplate), and I'm trying to learn a few things about it: the significance (if any) of a small "x" stamp, the identification of the stock markings, and why my apparently correct cleaning rod doesn't fit right. It seems to be too thick right under the shoulder, and won't clear the front swivel -- which also appears to be correct.

Thanks.

I have a '68 or '70 down in the gun room. I can mike various points on the cleaning rod for you to compare if you like.

I saw that -- but it only looks like ten topics have been posted in the last 4-1/2 years...

Tom; Go to trapdoorsgalore@gmail.com and tell Keith Rush about your rifle. He can
give you some good information with just the serial number as to when your rifle was
made. Good man to talk to about trapdoors. webfoot10

Dave, I was at Quonset PT but in 67 my brother in law was going to CM B school at Davisville, he stayed with us.
I like R.I. you choose well, I lived up the street fron John Chaffee who was Governor then later Sec. of the Navy, he was a good friend of my next door neighbor, we dung clams together. Ah the smells of Rocky Point:bigsmyl2:

:-) Don -- took your good advice and posted over on BPCR.net. Thanks for the nudge.

John -- will take you up on your offer: will take some more pics and also some rod measurements on the weekend and will post here.

Thanks.

P.S. Tom-ADC and webfoot10: I was active duty regular Navy from 1970 - 1977. Finished up my illustrious career around 1980 as a weekend warrior assigned to the WWII destroyer Newman K. Perry (DD-883) -- homeported at Newport. Served for 2-1/2 years on the USS Independence (CV-62) -- back when there were such things in the Navy as oil-fired carriers. Feel somewhat like a dinosaur these days...
