Some may have read that I posted for some info on the Marlin 1894 in 357 Mag Pre Safty Micro Groove and did not get much response on its use with H-110 or W-296. So I thought I would post what I found.

I did try loads from 13.OGr to 14.O Gr of H-110 In .05 inc. It shot a little over a 2 in Group at 100 yards with the 13.5Gr load of H-110

So today I thought I would try some W-296 and ran the same charge of 13.5Gr and it did not shoot near as well as the H-110 with the same load. Also went up to 14.5 and 15.OGr of W-296 and got this group with 14.5Gr of W-296.

This is out of my Marlin 1894 .357 Mag Pre Safty Micro groove. 100 yards. Each Square is 1 in.
NOE 360-180 RNFP/GC Size .359 Lube was 50/50 Alox/Johnsons Paste Wax
14.5Gr W-296
Remington Case
CCI-550 Primer.
Top right hole I did not pull I yanked lol. I need a Trigger for this darn Marlin lol

Great shooting!
Help me out here.
What mould are you using.
Is this the 360 180Gr. WFN or the 359 190Gr. RF (RD)

Sorry if I sound "da"- but I have had some inquiries
for the bullet you are using.

This is your 360-180 WFN NOT the Ranch Dog Version.

And yep it is my fault lol. :)

You must've had a scope on that Marlin? Great shooting. I wonder what the hp would do?

Yep I had a scope so I could see the target lol. I have no idea about the HP version as I do not have that one.

But I do have a question or two. I changed a couple of things since I was in a hurry to go hunting with the Marlin this weekend but it did not pan out due to the large amount of rain we have had.

I sized them to .360 this time and used White Label Lube BAC instead with the case and powder charge the same as well as the primer. I would think this would still shoot to the same point of aim. Am I correct about this?

Absolutely, positively, maybe.

You'll have to shoot to know for sure.

I was afraid of that lol. But I would think that being that the od of the bullets are now just a hair larger it would close the group up a tad. And not move it around.

And I am running out of BOOLITS lol. And with this heat we have right now in South Texas I do not really wish to cast any more till it cools off at least some lol.

two shots will tell you.

other than that, you've changed enough to possibly make a difference.

I like the 50/50 Alox/Johnsons Paste Wax but with my Lyman 45 and BAC it is much cleaner and faster and I do not have to wait for things to dry lol.

It took me a while to get the new NOE mold working for some reason last winter. I think I was trying to run it too cold. I misinterpreted the instructions about the design temperature for the mold and didn't have the lead pot cranked up enough. I struggled with wrinkled bullets and HP fill out problems for several sessions. Finally I got the metal good and hot and the mold started to work much better. It seemed to improve as far as reject percentage each time I used it so I was probably just learning how to use the mold. The quality is top notch and overall I like the mold and have since jumped in for three more NOE group buys.
I did some shooting with the bullets in both plain base and gas check style in both my Marlin 357 mag and my H&R single shot with a 357 mag barrel that I rechambered to 357 max with a one degree throat. I'm attaching a few photos of groups I shot last spring with my Marlin carbine. Neither are fire breather loads but I was looking for a small game load with good accuracy rather than a deer hunting load. These groups were shot at 50 yards with a 4x scope on the rifle. These are the best groups that rifle has ever shot with any bullet jacketed or lead. I haven't had time this past summer to do a lot of casting or shooting but am encouraged by the results so far.
The 357 max loads were hotter loads and chronographed at around 1800 fps with the gas checked version. I don't have group photos but they were around 1.5 to 2.5 inches at 50 yards. Not quite as good as from the Marlin but good enough for deer hunting at woods distances. The details for the loads I used are scribbled on the targets in the pictures.
