I saw a 44 Special Ruger BH yesterday at the local gunshop but I passed because I don't know the correct sight height on the front.
445 dollars new.
I wish I knew the correct height for the front sight.

Where's that gun shop? I'll cure your being scaired if it's anywhere within a reasonable distance! I've been looking for one.

I would say you wouldn't want to drive that far.

Ruger probably does too. That depends on a lot of factors. They can only use history and / or guess how the gun is to be used. And how you will choose to shoot it. (loose hold vs tight, one hand vs two, etc)

Mine are usable 5.5" models with how I hold but I would prefer just a little bit more sight for 44 Spl pressure levels and 280 grainers on the top end.

One hand hold:

200 grainers any level
225s have to be @ / above 900 fps
250s have to be @ / above 950 fps

When I shoot one handed (outside of target for developing these results ) it is for instinctive shooting and sights are not used, so two handed is where it is important to me. Two handed results in more deliberate control.

Two handed:

200s any level
225s any level (tested so far)
250s have to be @ / above 850 fps

This is to shoot POA-POI at the lowest (minimum) sight setting "for me". Below these velocity levels, I need a 6 o'clock hold of sorts. So I could use another .025 to put me closer to center adjust for SAAMI 44 Spl pressures.

As said, it depends on the bullet wt. Easily changed, so why worry?

The reason one worries is that I would use a 250 grain bullet and I want to be able to sigjt in wih it with some adjustment downward. I had enough trouble with my 45 colt awhile back remember?

One can always have a 3/8" dovetail cut in the ramp, and install a post or ramp front sight of any height available. That's a pretty sweet price on a very fine revolver.

Everyone of us sees the sights a bit differently. However, that said, I have no problems with my Ruger .44 Lipsey Special with 200 gr W/C and up to 250 gr Keith bullets. The issue front sight seems just fine to me. I shoot mostly two handed and my "standard" /44 Special load is a 250 gr Keith ahead of 7.5 grs of Unique or equivalent. I have sight movement both up and down left when it is zeroed for 25 yards dead on.

I DO wish that Ruger had a pinned front sight on their blued guns like they do their stainless ones.

Buy it. Try it. Fix it if you do not like it. If something does happen to come off the shelf perfect for me it will probably have some shortcoming for you and the inverse would also be true.
