Aluminum oxide. I just keep mine inside in their boxes, nothing on them.

Got any pics of this, perchance? None of my Lee moulds do this, and you've got me curious.

Oxidation, see it all the time on old m/c gear & clutch covers.

Bullplate lube on the aluminum and steel both keeps my moulds in top shape. Storing in a sealed ammo can protects them from humidity.

I've noticed the same thing. Attribute it to humidity as well. It forms in the cavities, and will come off easily under a faucet using a brush.

Yours came in boxes?
I kroil all the metal surfaces of all my molds now - nothing to clean off when it's time for use, just start casting. Seems to keep everything happy.
