What is the most preferred .40 S&W boolit profile for USPSA, IDPA, 3-gun action shooting? I was looking at the 175 gr TC TL Lee 6 banger molds since I have had good luck thus far with the 230 gr TL RN one that I have. I will be shooting this in a 1911 style gun.

TC style bullits usually work best in the 40 and 175gr seem real popular too.

depends on how you want to "play the game"....
some go for light weight a 135 right at 1000 fps, some go the other direction and shoot 180's at 900 fps plus...

i started with 180/175 have gone down to 165's and have 135's to try next.

The 40-175-TCBB is extremly popular and can be used in the 40S&W and 10mm. Second is a 40-145-TC I cast.

I tend to like the heavier weights anyway. I haven't looked but Im guessing my load data for 180 gr j bullets will be pretty close for 175 gr cast. I will start lower of course. I am using the TL molds for my .45 acp with good luck, can I expect to have good results in .40 as well or will the microbands not be as effective in the higher pressure .40?

I use the 175 Lee TC in my .40 and 10MM. I took the BB off the mold when I got convinced it would be better off without it. I'm none too sure that helped, but it's much more difficult to put back on than remove. Tho I am not using the TL style boolit, I am using LLA on it, and it runs to 10MM velocitys fine that way.
I can't say I know if heavy and slow or light and fast is more popular, but the 175 needs about 970 FPS for a 175 PF. That seems to have enough pressure to run the comp fairly well.
Load 'em up and let 'er buck! :Fire:
