I just got home from a meeting with a farmer and the local Gamewarden
To many deer destroying to much corn

To keep the farmer happy and stay the only person allowed to hunt there
I will force myself to shoot a few deer for him

So I now have 4 crop damage permits to harvest deer , good till Sept 23
And if I want 2 more after I fill these , I just have to ask

I can shoot the deer with anything I want , even a CF rifle
As for normal deer hunting in Ohio , a CF rifle isn't allowed

I can even spot light them ( I will not )

So now I have to decide what to use

I am working 7 days a week for a little more

So I think I will wait a few weeks and then see how a doe responds to the 35 Wellen .....Or do I want to test out the Mini Mauser in 7.62 x 39 with a 150 gr FP with a pure lead nose that it shoots so well

Or is the 165 gr Ranch Dog boolit in the 30/30 a better choice since I have never used it on deer yeat ????????

:bigsmyl2: Oh lord the choices I have to make :bigsmyl2:

Terrible predicament you are in, just don't wait for me to feel sorry, LOL! If it was me, I would use what ever I was most confident in.

I have to shake my head in disbelief and envy.

Here in Arizona even getting drawn to hunt deer in a favorable area is akin to winning the Power Ball Lottery. At least for me anyways.

In all the time I've put in for these draws I've only been drawn three times; and in those three times I didn't get my preferred choice. I had to hunt in my second or third choice of hunting area.

Remember us less fortunate hunters while you're out there dropping deer.

Have a good time.

then 30-30 with the 150 grain GB mold.

Got a 357 Mag you could use one of the 190 gr. GB boolits out of?

Yea , a scoped 10" DW
But I have killed a lot of deer with it over the years

I want to use rifles I normaly don't get a chance to use around here on deer

I may use the 44 mag or 500 S&W handie rifle
As neither of those have drawn deer blood yeat

I looked tonight
2 bucks , 6 doe's and a bunch of fawns in the bean feild right where one of my tree stands is located

Go with the softnosed boolit in the 7.62x39, they work great. What boolit do you plan on using in the 35 Whelen?

I have both the .360 220 gr Flat nose GB bullet that I ran a while back , with a soft nose loaded at 1900 fps
And my freinds custom 250 gr FP , with a soft nose loaded at 1800 fps

Both will shoot 2" or a little less at 100 yds

Both would be more than enough to take a 100 - 120 lb doe at less than 100 yds

I will probely use witch ever the scope is currently sighted in for

Sounds like you need to try one out on each deer . . . then compare . . . take pictures!

Wouldn't know what to do if I "had" to shoot that many all in 1 year.

It's a lottery draw out here in Nevada too. Put in by Tax day wait around till Memorial day to see if you draw get a tag 1 in3 only to find out your fensed out of half the area you hunted last time by some save the world anti everything fun sort....................................um I meant the roads got closed for wilderness areas or are washed out or there have been ranch extentions where they dont/can't farm and won't run cows.
That's twice today I've gotten carried away.

Asending power I say 7.62x39,30-30,Whelen,repeat.

Good hunting !
