View Full Version : Got detail info on the Pedersoli?

I got one of the tang sights mentioned in another thread in this forum. It is from Pedersoli, and meant for their 1874's. I have a Pedretti, and silly me, thought the sight would just mount right on.
The threads are different for the 2. The Pedretti has a smaller thread. It looks like #8, but I didn't bother to find out. After some thought, I decided the best solution would be to drill the tang for the Pedersoli screw size. That's where my question comes in. The screws are .210" in diameter, and seem to be 28 TPI. There is such a thing as #12-28, but it is uncommon. I can't even find/buy a nut to fit at the local hardware store.
Do any of you know for certain what the thread pitch is? It was offered to me that it could be metric, but it does not match 5MM metric standards by any means.
Hoping someone here has fussed with this or has a drawing or more info.... :bigsmyl2:

Why not check Marbles website they sell screws in set of two to mount their tang sights they should have the proper screws you need, nothing else email or call customer service and ask what size your rifle takes.

I have used 10-32 screws on a Pedersoli.

I am posting without researching in order to get this out before you drill the hole.
I'm pretty sure the correct screw for the Pedersoli (and original Sharps rifles) is 10-28.

The Pedretti probably takes a 5 mm screw.

Ha! Then why would it be .45 caliber?
They make copies of all kindsa stuff. It can be whatever they want to make it.
It's no metric I ever saw, and I work with metric thread pitch all day every day....

I won't be doing any drilling until I KNOW what that thread pitch is!
Like my first post said, the major diameter is .210", which seems to equate to #12. Sure wish I could find my thread pitch gauge....

I know for a fact that the standard hole for tang sights on a Sharps takes a number 10 screw.
I also know for a fact that the pitch is s little faster than NF or NC threads.
What I can't remember is if the pitch is 36 tpi...or 28 tpi.

I am ninety percent certain it's 10-28 on the Pedersoli (and Shiloh, C. Sharps, and originals).

EDIT...
It's 10-28, and Dixie Gun Works has them.

Thank you very much, Charlie!
The tang sight I got came with those blued machine screws that are .210" diameter. That threw me. They are indeed 28TPI, but were the wrong diameter, so it was hard to match the screw to a tap.
I'll order up a pair of those 10-28 screws, and get me a 10-28 tap. Then I'm off to the races to put the tang sight on.
Again, I appreciate it.

Why not see if they have the correct type of screw available? Instead of drill & tap.

The thread on a Pedersoli tang is 5mm x 0.9 (metric coarse), just got mine sorted then recently bought a Pedersoli Hiwall and found the tang hole is now 5mm x 0.8 (metric standard.
