I was given a heavy lead ingot this morning that weighed around 80-100 Lbs (guess)
that was marked BAB CO. I tried searching for some info on it but came up empty.
Anyone have any info on it or seen anything like it.

Is there any chance that it could be BOBCO?

Melt it. See what it does.
Keep it separate from know good stuff.

I took a dead blow hammer to it today and it is definitely more than just lead.
The hammer made an indent but not very deep and it has that 'lino' ring to it.
I also took a pointed tool to it (my WW remover - it's just an awl with a bend
at the tip) and it didn't go too deep into it either. It's too hot to strike up the
smelting pot just yet so the mystery continues....

Maybe some sort of babbitt?

Probably from Babco Metals in Carnegie, PA. Not sure if they're still in the lead business.

My guess is that your ingot is salvaged/recycled battery lead alloy with moderate Sb content, and that's what accounts for it's hardness. Good luck.

I finally got around to melting this bad boy today. I tested it tonight and it came in just a little
bit harder than pure lead. It will probably harden up a little over the next couple of weeks but
it is pretty close to pure lead. About 80 pounds (it was free so I'm not complaining!)

Looks like the ingot that the battery makers use. Probably is close to pure,I aquired some of those a few years ago and I know that is what they were used for.

It does look like the ingots that I got from Sanders Lead, just a different marking. Their lead ingots weighed 60# or so ( rough guess) and are from reclaimed batteries.

That sounds about right. I got 72 pounds of lead from it when I actually weighed the ingots.
