A man I know has a beautiful Brazilian Mauser with a very servaceable barrel and the wood is excellent, metal is fading to plum and a little light on the exposed parts, no pitting below the wood. Bolt and receiver match barrel doesn't. Wish I had took a picture but didn't, how much is is worth?

Thanks! that is about what I thought, he is asking $350 and has had it at the last two gun shows. I will wait untill he gets tired of carring it arond and offer him a fair price.

If the gun were in better condition than you describe, yes....it might bring $350, but in the condition you describe, it sounds like a " good shooter " at best.

I paid $250 for my 1908 Brazilian. I little high but I wanted it. The wood has plenty of dings and dents, but they add character . As run5run said, it doesn't shoot jacketed worth a hoot, with a .288 bore...Ray

Wow, that is a huge bore.

My 1918 will shoot 1.5" to 2" groups at 100 yds with the 175gr Hornady JRN driven at
full velocity. Definitely shooter grade and nothing to write home about, paid $170 or
so about 7-8 yrs ago.

$89.00 all day long by the boxcar load from RSI Genesseo, IL and it shoots as good as it looks. But that was about 1995 :-) I bought 2 of'em and sporterized the 2nd (not as nice a stock as this one) for my daughter's 1st deer rifle. You could also buy NOS Brazilian M1922 FN made 20" threaded/chambered barrels in the white from them for $19 per. That's what went on the sporter. I bought 5 of'em and have one left, after using the one and selling off the other 3 over the years.

Awhile afterwards I bought another M98/08 Brazilian from another outfit for $100. It appeared to have been carried around as the stock had a few dings and compressions but I seriously doubt it'd ever been shot. I kept it about a year and then decided I had military rifles with 29" barrels running out my ears so I sold it to one of my shooting buddies and he did shoot it some. What is very remarkable is that looking at a fired ejected case you couldn't tell that the case had been fired, and that was factory W-W 7x57. Not a mark, no burnishing, nuttin'! I have a standing offer to buy it back.

BTW, I'd heard a couple years ago that Brazil still has a sizeable number of these rifles on hand. That is a quantity worth importing, but the word I heard is that they still use the M1908 for ceremonial and parade purposes and don't wan't to release any more.

Just think, they made these rifles by the tens upon tens of thousands to be dragged around the battelfield. Amazing.

Come on Buckshot, I call BS - you can't have all these folks here believe all that!!!

:kidding:

That's really a cover story for some museum being burglarized, somewhere. Ain't it? At least someone needs to be in jail for an old beater having a stock like that on it.

Looks like you've really got it looking nice - beautiful rifle.

I killed my first deer with a 1908 Brazilian Mauser - built a sporter from an action I got for $45 in '84. I'd of kept it if it looked like that!!
