I have a 6.5 jdj barrel for my t/c & would like to try boolits in it, what this is is a 225 win case blown out & necked up to 6.5. I normally shoot 120 gr nosler b/t's at 2200 fps with imr 4320. The load data came from ssk with the bbl.
The closest published data I have found is for the 6.5 carcano with a 129 gr boolit & unique.
6.5 jdj case 6.5 carcano
dry wt 147.7 dry wt 152.0
wet wt 188.3 wet wt 200.6
Based on the weight difference, & lymans 8.0 starting load, would it be wise to reduce the starting load by 10% & go from there? This would be using BaBore's 6.5 kurtz, unique, & a cci 200 primer. The barrel has a 1 in 9 twist. Thank you for any & all help.

Mike, You might think about trying Trail Boss Powder. Simply fill the case with powder to the point that would be at the bottom of the seated bullet. Weigh that charge and reduce to 70% of that weight for a starting load. Work your way back up watching for pressure signs. DO NOT go beyond the point where the bullet base touches the powder!!!!! It seems that compressed loads of Trail Boss are not very friendly. I've tried this recipe in .223 and 6mmTCU with cast bullets. Picks PDs off the mound and drops them again just like jacketed. RD

Mike, You could do a search on here for 6.5 Arisaka cast loads or 6.5 Jap. Slightly smaller case then the Carcano. Good Luck

Rockydog, thanks didn't think about Trail Boss, haven't ever tried it. What boolit are you using in your 6mm tcu? That's the bbl that was on my t/c when I bought it.

jsizemore, I did look at the 6.5 jap just didn't have one to weigh. I was looking at the powders I have on hand, unique, red dot, 2400, 3031, 4895,4064, 4320, & 5744. Thanks.
