I read some casters use 2 stroke oil for lubing plates and pins .It is very simular to the oil you get from Mihec molds. What is your take? :redneck:

I used it twice prior to getting my Bullplate. I would not go back. I am still amazed everytime I cast and am able to cut my sprues before the puddle even hardens. No smearing no mess.

I guess anything is worth a try but are you willing to chance messing up a mould if does not work out?
Bullplate is proven and CHEAP for what you get. It does not take much to lube up a mould as a little bit goes a long way but I do suggest you purchase more than 1 bottle (one for you to use and 1 for you to spill).

I keep my "bottle " stashed away from where I will knock it over and just re fill the sample squesey? (sp) bottle and keep it on my casting table A little goes a loooong way !

Never heard of that but it would probably work. I've been using that stuff that comes with the MiHec molds for the past few sessions and it works pretty good. Does anybody know what that stuff is?

It ain't a matter of "probably", it's a matter of DOES. Get yourself some, you won't be sorry.

Yep, a little goes a long ways. Just touch a Qtip to the sprue plate nut, pin and a little smear around the sprue hole. Most of these lubes will migrate when hot. Something tells me that Bullplate is similar in at least some of it's chemistry to the newer 2 Stroke oils. MiHec's lube may be similar?

2 stroke oil works for me.

Don't over apply the 2 stroke oil. Fouled up the spark plug on my mould. LOL.

Jeff, you can't use two stroke oil on a four banger mold :)...Ray

I have used 2 stroke oil, kinda works but not as well as Bull Plate and does not last very long,
need to reapply frequently.

Clearly inferior to Bull Plate Lube. I have not tried the Miha stuff yet.

I've used 2 stroke oil before also, I've got to agree w/ MtGun44.
If you don't spill the bottle, one bottle will last a very, very long time.

The original post mentioned mold maintenance. Are you talking sprue plate lube or to stop rust.
For sprue plate line I will stick with bullplate. For this it is the best I have seen. To stop rust it might be hard to prevent the 2 cycle oil but I just don't like to oil moulds once they are clean.

oiling a mold isn't the bad thing it's made out to be, check out the kroil in a boolit mold sticky.
i use a similar oil to the kroil with no issues except for a short run in then it helps immensely.
have a 4 cav 429421 square groove that won't drop half the boolits without some oil help.
and bullplate is now preferred on all aluminum molds after one try here.

I have Bullplate and the stuff from mehic I also have used two cycle oil. There are several different kind of two cycle oil. There is the kind you mix in a ratio for different engines and some that you mix to a gal of gas no matter what the engine calls for. Also there is the boat two cycle oil TCW 3 TCW 4. What I have used has been TCW 4 it works for me fine cant tell alot of diff in them but I have not did a real test. Now as far as the spills go I have a tray under my pot to catch drips I put a touch in the tray and keep a Qtip in it. A ingot mold should work just as well.

You probably need to buy some power bands...:bigsmyl2:

I have spilled at least 3 bottles of Bullplate lube(slow learner) until I drilled a hole that the bottle fit into a small piece of 2x6. Works great and no spills.

[smilie=s:to help with fouling you should purchase the value pack power bands it give you 3 different ones to choose from also my molds came alive when the new power bands were coupled with some boyesen reeds. Brings speed casting to a new level[smilie=2:

If you know motors, and I don't care who you are; that was funny and yes I have to clean my screen.[smilie=2::drinks:

Well you can also punch or drill a hole in the bottles lid and use it as a squirt type then if you knock it over you wont loose so much so fast. The only other thing I can think of its dip Q tip PUT LID BACK ON and carry on with the casting. I can see how in the heat of making boolits you can forget that just like in the heat of passion you forget something and end up with a kid. Just remember the lid is only good if you use it.

You can use 2 stroke on a 4 banger....just have to "stroke" it twice...LOL
