View Full Version : What does 2400 look like?

I purchased a pound of 2400 today at Gander Mtn. I forgot to check it before and when I got home I found it had been opened. I called GM and they said "tough luck."

I have not used 2400 in about 30 years so I do not know how it looks now. It used to be a very fine flake type powder. Does it still look that way? I doubt there is anything wrong, I feel that some curious customer opened the seal to look inside.

Thanks, malcolm

I wouldn't forget the "tough luck". Tell the Gander to take a walk up the mountain. I'd buy my powder elsewhere in the future, that's for sure. Can't help you on looks, never used it.

Malcolm,
2400 is a real fine powder, it looks about like Win Ball. To me, it shows no flake design to me, it is a little shinny and not dull like flake powder.
Hope this helps.

Brother Love,

I could take a picture and post it as many others could. But you will not be able to identify it by picture along...

I really think you should persue the Gander Mountain issue and try to get it returned or your money back...

I would think Gander Mountain might really be interested in knowing someone might get hurt from something that was shipped by them...

Just a thought...

Good-luck...BCB

Just got off the phone with GM manager (should have talked to him the first time) and he said, "bring it back".

I also found an buddy up the road about 3-4 miles who has some 2400 and we are going to compare the powder later tonight.

From the description in this thread I am almost sure it is 2400 but I will know later tonight.

Thanks, malcolm

"No. 2400 became available on the market in 1933. It is in the form of very small circular discs about .038" in diameter and .013" thick, therefore smaller and thicker than Unique."

Call GM, ask to talk to the store manager and tell him about his helpful staff.

Or get on the corporate web site and find a contact us page . . .

Use it to send an mail.

Customer service aside, the liability issues this raises will get someones attention

Your pic looks very much like the 2400 I have here. THAT IS NO GUARANTEE.

You have experienced the policy as interpreted by sales staff ("Tough luck....") when "No Return Of Reloading Components Can Be Made" vs. the management's realization of all that can go wrong/all that can go right.

Looks like 2400 to me; short cut extruded tubular powder is its specification

Thanks all!

ZW, That is the way I remembered 2400 from 30 yrs ago.

GM agreed to take it back but I found out from a buddy up the road what i have is indeed 2400. Already shot a few rounds from this new 2400.

All is OK.

With powder manufacturing moving around, and being consolidated from time to time, many powders change physical characteristics as their plant of manufacture is replaced by another.

I agree with spqrzilla…

To me, the 2 powders shown don’t look alike at all…

One appears to have more extruded kernels than the other…

My lot of 2400 doesn’t really look like either one!...

But to really compare them, at least in visual appearance, all would need to be side-by-side and observed under a viewing ‘scope or very good magnifying glass…

I know mine is 2400 as I have loaded nearly 300 rounds from the canister that I have—and that is the only one I am concerned with!...

Good-luck…BCB

If nothing else contact the manufacturer and I would bet they will make it right rather than endanger your safety!!

Looks like any other ball powder. No way to tell what
is it by looks alone
