if you could find a used one cheap enough, you could take it to a machine shop and have the gas check portion turned out(up?) and maybe also leaving enough of the original shank to create another lube groove. i dont know if i would use a plain base in a semi-auto rifle but i certainly would in a bolt action or single shot pistol.

NEI will cut them shallow and leave off the gas check if you ask them. I had this done to one of the cavities on a 4 hole 125 grain 6.5 mould for my 6.5 TCU.

I had one of the Lyman rn molds for a 60+ gn boolit that was too long for most of my 22's. It shot good from a 1/14" if I shot it fast. My Cooper and hornets couldnt make it go fast enough to shoot good.
I sent it to our hero Buckshot and he milled of the gc portion which shortend it to about 50+gn. Now it shoots as good as any gc boolit from my Cooper at its full tilt 1800 fps capability. It now shoots good in all our hornets.
