Hi guys,

I've been swapping laments with another caster over the lack of Lyman 4 cvity rifle molds, and the though occurred to me that if there are enough people interested, we might be able to persuade Lyman to make a special run. I'll start it off, and ask anyone else interested to add their moniker and the bullet design they'd like to buy. No promises, no guarantees, no prices, no nothing right now, except fot the POSSIBILITY. So here goes:

Molly 311290

Sorry, I just realized that this should have been posted under Group Buys, discussions. I'll repost accordingly.

Molly what does your 311 290 weigh in at. I have 311 299 about 215 grn naked depending on alloy. Getting off coarse some one I would recommend for 4 cavity would be 358 87 a well hidden pistol wad cutter about 140 grn that I have. One of the better wadcutters from old Lyman days gone past.

For 30 cal Casting the 311 291 and 311 466 and 311 467 are good numbers. Hope you get some interest in ths Molly.

I'd settle for lyman to make the molds they make now to the
right tolerances.

We can;t get Lyman to bring back good performing designs like the 311316 and 358009. I kinda doubt they'll do this either.

The old Lyman would have loved this website, and probably would have been a major player in the group buys.

I'm not talking too far in the past either. I started shooting the 311644 mold about 15 yrs ago. I liked it so much I contacted Lyman and asked them if they could cut me a 4 cavity one. They did!

I'm with Leadhead though, I'd settle for them to turn out their regular catalog items with some basic level of QC. Based on what I've purchased the last few times, it ain't happening.

Hi Steve,

I don't have a 311290. That's why I listed it as one I'd like to buy.

Fellows, I didn't intend this thread as a source of recommendations or complaints. I'd like to ask that you post ONLY the designs that you need / want and are willing to pony up the cash to buy.

Not trying to be obnoxious, but I'm trying to get Lyman interested in resuming production. I figure the only way that will happen is if they can see some real sales potential. Recommendations they already know, and publish in their reloading manual. Complaints aren't anything I can help you with. Write to Lyman with them.

Sure won't if we don't try.

I have a number of Lyman 4-cavity rifle moulds, but they've only come to me through considerable patience and luck (and also considerable money, in some cases). Most of them came from E-bay sellers.

IF Lyman could be persuaded to both produce some of the in-demand designs, and DO IT CORRECTLY, it would be a wonderful thing. My 4-cavs all drop extremely consistent bullets, and I'm mighty thankful to have them. Some of my rifle numbers are 311291, 311314, 311466 and 467, 311284 and a couple others. They get a lot of use, and bullet quality is high. Same comments apply equally to my 4-cavity handgun moulds.

I'm with Stephen Perry , the same numbers he listed would tickle me to no end . To have the quality that Bruce B is talking about , now that's what I'll pay for . Who knows I might buy one of each [smilie=1:

IIRC we've had several people, a couple with a "hook" even, who were in close contact with Lyman and talking with the folks who made the decisions. Nothing has come of it so far, and we're talking several years of talks.

Boys, I think we've got to face the fact the Lyman doesn't give a hoot about casting. It's a tiny, tiny part of their business. I'm sure they make far more off recoil pads and sunglasses than moulds. Dream if you want, I hope it happens, but I ain't holding my breath.
