I just bought some Winchester 231 locally and was offered an 8 lb jug of WC844 for 80 dollars. I was thinking about using it for a 223 that I haven't bought yet!!!
Just wondered if I can get some feedback on this powder. It was unopended, still sealed in the shipper.
If I don't get the rifle would there be interest in a FTF sale in Tucson.

If it is a similar lot to the WC844 that I use, it is a great powder for 60 gr. and lighter in 223. Mine is loaded grain for grain as H-335. Loads almost exactly the same as A2230, but I haven't fully explored that relationship; yet.

That is a good price. Used to be $65 some time ago and seen it up to $120 recently.
Had I needed it, I would have bought at that price. I went to canister powder when surplus became scarce and is now priced similar to canister. Surplus powder is not really a deal anymore.

I use lots of it in the 223...
My lot number is 726...
I find it to be a grain or 2 slower than my lot of H-335...
I wish I would have purchased another 8-pound keg when I got it years ago...
Good-luck...BCB

My supply of his SR 7641 (SR 4759 Clone) is dwindling. I have a stock, but when gone, there ain't no more.

The powder canister is still in the box, where do you find the lot number?

I'd buy it as long as it's not 844-T (for tracer ammo).

My WC-844 is in a white plastic gallon jug that has a label attached to it...
It has a line right about the "Flammable Solid" warning that says "Lot"...
After that it is handwritten in..."726"...
This powder came from Camp Perry in 2008...

Yes, buy it. It's a great price and a useful powder for cb loads.

I've seen this before. What is the difference between 844 and 844T?

The tracer powder ( T Designation)is for igniting the trace compound. probably a hotter powder. Both Bartlett and Pat's reloading have had it in the past.
