Guess you are looking for the older cases,as current production will surely chamber in any 375W.. Oncabull

All I have ever use is current production 38-55 brass in my top eject BB94 375. I did a chamber cast once and I thought original brass would work as well. (but I don't remember)

My gun is an early 80s or late 70s top eject. I really don't know what I'm looking for except that before I purchase a lot of 38-55 brass I want to try a few cases first.

OMGB,

Best to do a chamber cast, but FWIW I just bought a OFW 38-55(1980) and it will not chamber original length 2.125 brass, current production 2.080 works good, in my gun @2.092-2.095 I can feel it start to crush when I chamber the round.

Everybody is out of stock and backordered right now, probably looking @Jan production.

You can, in a pinch reform 30-30 brass - it will come out short around 2.010.
I just formed and fire formed some, and will only use it in the lever, since it cycles better, just a bit short( when loaded to seat on the lands/groves, it starts to bind when cycling w/Lyman 375449 &375296.

Hope this helps,
Jon
