I gave mine up a while back in a moment of weakness but now have it back. Its a kimber cdp with an officers grip frame and a commander barrel. It conseals as as well as a 3 inch gun but is as shootable and reliable as a commander. It will shoot into an inch at 25 yards with the load i use and right from the factory all the edges are rounded. Its accurate, dead reliable, and conseals real well. I personaly couldnt think of a better ccw gun for a holster. Now in the summer when a shirt with tails isnt practiical i usually carry a alloy j frame or a ruger lcp in a pocket holster.

Winter carry for me is an xd 40, and summer carry is a sp101. Wifey thinks we need a pair of ruger 380's they drop nicely into our shorts pocket.

Good morning
Things are rather restricted here in Peru. So I tote about a Rossi 5 shot 38 Special 2" with a hip grip stocked with my 165 grain near pure lead in a +P load.
Then comes my State of ILL. Still under the lowlife liberal idea that only polititians have any rights to publicly protect themselves.

I like the LCP loaded with Buffalo Bore's 100 gr. LFP bullet because it can be carried anywhere at anytime. Mine has the Crimson Trace laser which makes a world of difference in hits.

My usual CCW and open-carry bit has involved either a Commander-sized autopistol of some kind or a 4" Model 686. Recent acquisition of a Model 19 x 2.5" has altered that process a bit. I never understood the attraction of those short-barrelled Magnums back when they were THE REVOLVER for off-duty cops. Now that I own one, I GET IT.

It's hard to beat a 2.5" Model 19 or 66 for concealed carry, though in the winter I normally carry my Springfield XD .45 acp. In the summer, it's one of my pocket pistols.

By the way Al, my 2.5" Model 19 was purchased from a Lt. with Ridgecrest PD in the late 1980's. He's since retired and moved to Washington State.

I'm mostly a revolver guy. Right now my primary off-duty is a Ruger SP101 DAO 2 1/4" .357. I carry it with 158 grain Gold Dot Magnums. I have a 3" .357 DAO SP101 also, but as of yet I haven't made it to the range to qualify with it. It will get carried a lot, probably in addition to the 2 1/4", once I qualify.

My on-duty BUG just changed from a S&W 37-2 Airweight .38 Special (which was getting kind of worn out) to a S&W 432PD Airweight .32 H&R Magnum. I really like the little gun, I expect to stick with it until someone comes out with a lightweight .327 Federal (come on S&W M&P 332 or Ruger LCR 327!).

My department just issued me a new Glock 23 RTF2. While I'm forced to carry it on-duty, I've yet to carry it off-duty. I have a good concealment holster for it, but I'm neither a Glock nor a .40 S&W fan, so it generally sits in my locker at work.

My favorite would be a SP101 with a enlarged cylinder window and a 5-shot .44 Special cylinder. Since that doesn't exist, I'd say its a toss up between the 2 1/4" SP101 and the 432PD.

springfield mil-spec stainless 1911- only mod done is taking a sledgehammer and punch to the stupid ILS thing. Usually loaded with hardball, even though it spits hollowpoints just fine. Haven't carried it in a while because I sent my favorite holster over seas to my brother in law in afghanistan. Last I heard he still prefers it over the issued holster. Gotta replace it some day so I can carry my 1911 again.

S&W 15-4 .38 special- stock with large pachmyer presentations. Usually loaded with 'the load'. RCBs 150 KT over 10.5gr of 2400 Rather hot but okay for carry and not target shooting. Been carrying this most often lately. I'm using a pancake prototype from Wes.

S&W 629-4 With the 1911 restricted to bed side duty this was my favorite. Loaded with 250gr cast hollow points at 850fps I figure it should work okay and not beat me up. I lost my homemade holster for this on a recent canoe trip so this one is stuck in the safe for the time being. I really need to save up and get one of the chest holster rigs Wes offers.

I'm with waksupi on this one.

For over 20 years now I've packed a Colt stainless 1911, full sized. There are times when the full sized 1911 maybe a lil more than I can comfortably conceal. That's when I swap over to my S&W Model 60 (.357).

Stainless works well for me due to my body chemistry and the hot summers where I live (I'd rust a blued gun to death in short order).

Over the years, I've noticed that many of us choose our CCW's based on our body configuration. Let's face it, some of us can hide a young cannon, and some can barely hide Ruger LCP. Such is life...

I also carry my pre-80 series Combat Commander on occasion. I put Heine sights; long trigger; flat mainspring housing; and Wilson beavertail grip safety. These modifications make it point well for me. The reason I don't always carry it is here in Texas many times I don't wear clothes that will conceal it properly so the LCP most days gets the nod.

My favorite ccw is an SP101, .357 Mag, 3" barrel.

Why? Because the one I found happens to shoot POA and POI at 25 yards with my favorite home-load (target, defense, and cottontail head-shot load) at 25 yards, I've been using it in the local Bullseye Matches, and it fits in my jeans pocket.

I have a S&W M&P 340 CT in .357 Mag. that I carry with Federal 158 grain Hydra-Shoks. The CT designation is for Crimson Trace grips. Right out of the box the laser sighted directly below where the nite sights pointed at 7 to 10 yards. At about 13.5 oz. empty I just hope it hurts the perp as much as it hurts the shooter. One cylinder full and I'm reaching for the .38 specials. I'm thinking of adding a Clark Custom Carry Melt .45 ACP. Those two should cover most eventualities one might encounter.

Glock 36 .45 ACP, It's "a snappy little powerhouse" and I've always liked it.

I carried a 20 & 21 for a while, and they were great guns, too.

I'm kinda funny in that I don't have any other want or need for Glock other than CCW, but I am just focused on caliber, size, and reliabilty when it comes to a carry gun.

Same here. I'm around your size, and also have a crippled-up back. Yet I carry either a HiPower or full-size 1911 everyday, plus at least a BUG, without thinking about it.

I didn't used to think that would be possible, but I worked out ways so I could do it. I had to quit wearing T-shirts and switch to untucked shirts, which I used to hate, but I had to decide if I wanted to wear what I wanted or have the easiest to use gun if someone tried to pound on the guy with the cane (me) or worse- snatch one of the kids from me.

We can do lots of things if we want to; we just have to want to bad enough to adapt to it. I could probably come up with a way to carry a bunch of lead ingots if I wanted, but I don't want to do that. I do want to carry a gun I can shoot fairly well, so I came up with a way. Some don't. It's their choice.

I prefer pocket carry. Waistband doesn't cut it for me. It's too hot here for most common types of carry and I don't like loose shirt tails, so the pants pocket works best. I have two handguns that work well in this regard. I have a S&W Centennial, DA only with the grip safety. Fits perfectly. I fill it with Hornady Critical Defense 110 gr +P loads, with two speed loaders in the other pocket.

The other is a Star Firestar .40 S&W. It's a 1911-style pocket pistol, but I don't like it as much as the .38. It's heavy and takes up more pocket than the J-frame.

I carried a 1911 .45 on watch, two 4-hour shifts, every other day for 4 years. I know the gun, but like Quigley, I know how to use it, but don't have much use for it. I own exactly one. It's a Gold Cup and not very handy for carry. No, I don't need another one. Too bulky to carry and I don't like chasing brass during practice. Thanks, but I'll stick with the revolver for most of my shooting.

Regards,

Stew
