View Full Version : Is there anyway to tell if BW has been too hot?

I pan lube. I have been setting the boolits in the holes in the cake from the previous cookie cutter removal. Last night I set the oven for 275 intending to come back in about 15 minutes, but didn't for about 40 minutes. When the cake cooled it appears to be the same color and consistency. Other than shooting the boolit is there any way to tell if I over cooked and degraded my beeswax?

Overcooking a lube is pretty tough to do and will leave the lube considerably darker than before. I doubt you hurt anything going by your description. When I blend grease into my mixes things get pretty darn hot and I have not foiled anything yet.

I did overcook some Beeswax/tallow BP lube once due to having too small a batch in too big and flat a pan (shallow pool) with some lack of attention thrown in.......it turned brown and smelled like burnt engine oil with a hint of burnt hair.
