Okay, okay. I don't have many from which to choose, but they would be the Ideal 308291 and the Lee 358-158 RF.

RCBS 38-150 SWC and Lee 7.63x39 mold. Big enough to fit large 30 bore and I can file a flat on it for lever gun work.

I'd have to go with the OLD 358477 and the 311291.

For 30 cal SAECO #315, not sure on 357 yet.

I don't think I could. If I had to, it would probably be a NOE 311299 and a 358429 Ideal/Lyman. I guess it's all about what you shoot though....

I hope that none of us ever have to make difficult decisions like this in the future ? These answers will help a " newbie " in his selection process when they begin thinking on investing $ in their 1st mold purchases however.

Give us more opinions on this subject ...........

If Glen took the only two available H&G51 & RCBS 180fp, I would be very happy with a 358429 and 311407.

311291 or 31141 and 358311. Two of the best tried and proven designs. They have been around a long time for a reason and they both cover most all 30cal rifles, .38/.357 and 9mm pistols and most .35cal rifles. But you cant own just two molds, Its a boolit casting rule.LOL.

WOW! An easy question that even I can answer, 311291 and H&G50. If you are going to shoot one of those little pea shooter pistolas you better get lostsa practice!! :kidding:

The 150gr FP 30 cal that lee makes. The 358627 GB mold is probably my favorite 35.

311041 and Lee 158RFN

RCBS 38-150-K and jury is still out on the .30 cal, but the 311041 has done nice work
and is OK for lever guns and regular, so 'leader in the clubhouse'.

Saeco #305 or lyman 314299, and as strange as this may sound don't have a 38 cal pistol mold. Frank

For ME, and I own .30s in lever and bolt and the mould would have to feed both for target and hunting purposes, I would have to agree that the 311407 is one of the most versatile .30 caliber boolits out there. It will fit and engrave well with a variety of throat lengths, accomodate various seating requirements, the Loverin design offers many crimp groove choices and lube quantity choices, and has a nice flat point which is good for leverguns and very good for hunting while trading a small amount of BC.

Believe it or not, I don't have a "best choice" for the .38/.357, and that's because I have never taken the time to obsess over it enough, and I only have three moulds in that caliber. I'm open to recommendations for plain-based multi-purpose designs, having already taken into consideration the above posted responses.

For me 311041 because of its tapered nose fits most any 30 cal rifle well, not too long, not too short, easy to stabilize, and is a great hunting bullet! 358156 because it is the shizzle out of my 357 pistols, can drive it fast or slow, crimp groove in the right spot too.

Saeco 315 for 30cal as it works great in my 30-06, 30-30, and 7.5x55

Saeco 353 for 38/357 revolvers, but might change that to 354 if it included the 357 carbine
