View Full Version : "Hand net" to catch brass from pistol?

Anyone ever use something to catch brass ejected from a pistol? I was thinking of making something that I could attach to my arm with velcro ... a little net like they scoop fish out of an aquarium or something.

I keep losing too much brass at the range. I especially don't like to use the .40 cal brass for my Glock that I've "de-glocked" (removed the the bulge by full sizing).

Ideas?

THanks, Randy

I have one, I use it with some success. Typically 5 - 10 out of 50 will bounce out, but will remain nearby. If you mark them, usually you can get them all. What they need is something to hold them open, otherwise they 'fall' forming a curtain at the opening. I also have an E & L Mfg. for my 1911 http://www.brasscatchers.com/pics/123.jpg The one shown in post #2 looks like it has a plastic net and will probably stay open better than mine.

seems like it would be cheaper to put a tarp down for the brass to land on.

A guy I know made a brass catcher out of one of those nylon mesh laundry bags and pvc pipe.
He made it free standing and adjustable for height, made a square hoop out of the pvc and laced the mesh laundry bag around the hoop.

I think Dale53 made one from a dip net or something. You might do a search or pm him. There may have been a thread in special projects.

I have a military mosquito net that was given to me. Couple of those thumb tacks with the plastic heads holds it in place. Frank

I have one I e-bayed for 1/2 the cost of the Midway one. It fits on my hand with an elastic strap and catches 85-90% of the auto brass I shoot. Pistol and rifle are about the same ratio. It won't catch them all but does most.
