I have an old but serviceable Lyman AA press with the wooden handle. It needs a thorough cleaning so I need to disassemble it.

1.The pins that hold it together appear to be pieces of rolled up sheet metal. Must these be driven out?

2. Does the large top tension nut that holds the turret on merely need to be unscrewed to remove it and the turret?

3. Is there anything else I need to be aware of? Thanx! :-D

Those are roll pins and will drive right out. The top cap is locked in place with one or two set screws and will turn off when they are loosened. There is a ball detent under the cap so watch for the ball falling out. When re-assembling, the top cap sets the tension for the turret. When you get the tension you want just lock it in with the set screws.

If teh roll pins are not to tight they should drift out with a flat face punch. But, there are special roll pin punches made that will not ruin the pin. Brownells sells them.

Thanx for the help. I was able to get them out w/ a normal flat-face punch w/o damaging them.

I also located the top cap set screw and was able to remove the cap w/o difficulty.

I assume the same it true with the TruLine Jr? Mine is still in the box, haven't had time or a place to begin working on it. Other priorities, you know.

Wayne, the TL Jr is a lot simpler. E clips on the links and a nylon lock nut to hold the turret. It comes apart easy and goes back together easy.

I almost have the press disassembled, but am stymied by the main post. I took the hex screw out, but the post only rotates an 1/8th of a turn. Does it unscrew?

Here is what the press looked like during disassembly. I got it completely apart except for the central shaft, which apparently doesn't come out. Someone suggested that it was pinned to the base, and I agree.

And here is the cleaned, painted, and lubed press in all its glory, with a new, universal shellholder.

Thanx to all who gave me advice.

Mine isn't for sale. They are fine reloading presses ! !
I have many reloading presses, whenever I want to load a box of 38 Specials, it is like taking a pleasant trip back in time.
