Hello All: I need to clean up the tapped holes on the bottom of the action which accept the screws attaching the bottom metal. It was suggested I use a 1/4 X 22TPI tap, yet another person claims the threads are actually Whitworth with a different pitch. Could this be so? I would think the screws should be metric. Anyone know for sure? Thanks, Danth

Not an expert on witworth threads but most info that I have read suggests that instead of a 60 degree thread its more like a 55 degree thread. Old mauser bbls usually have a 55 degree thread. Frank

The 1/4-22 Mauser guardscrew is Whitworth 55 degree. There's also a difference in the thread profile as opposed to the 60 degree USS & SAE thread series. They are not interchangable.

I didn't know theaction screws were witworth but I know for sure the barrel threads are. It would make sense then that the same standard was used on the action screws.

Better watch out, if it's making sense to me it gotta be wrong. :kidding::kidding:
